    Hey

I was Wondering if anyone here could help me, I'm trying to track down a poem wrote in Irish and figured someone here may know of it.

I'm about to work on a video for a music loop I'm working on at the moment.

There's a poem in Irish I studied in school it reminds me of, where the writer (poem is anonymous) is saddened that this guy, possibly a well to do guy travelling through the town some time before had whispered sweet nothings in her ear, had his way with her and then left on his merry wanderings.

She hears he had visited the town recently and is saddened that he never came to see her.

I think one of the lines in it translates as "You passed this way last night and never stopped by"

I know that's not too much to go on. Any ideas?

    Cheers.

Maybe the 'Merry Blacksmith' in Irish.. sung by Planxty , Eddi Reader..

It has the same story as you described.

Surely it's "A Ógánaigh an Chúil Cheangailte"?
    A ógánaigh an chúil cheangailte
lé raibh mé seal in éineacht,
chuaigh tú aréir an bealach seo
is ní thainic tú dom fhéachaint.
Shíl mé nach ndéanfaí dochar duit
    dá dtagthá 'gus mé d'iarraidh
is gurb í do phóigín a thabharfadh sólás dom
dá mbeinn i lár an fhiabhrais.

    Dá mbeadh maoin agamsa
    agus airgead 'mo phóca,
    dhéanfainn bóithrín aicearrach
    go doras tí mo stóirín,
mar shúil le Dia go gcluinfinnse
    torann binn a bhróige,
's is fada ón lá 'nar chodail mé
ach ag súil le blas a phóige.

    Agus shíl mé, a stóirín
go mba gealach agus grian thú,
agus shíl mé ina dhiaidh sin
go mba sneachta ar an tsliabh thú,
agus shíl mé ina dhiaidh sin
go mba lóchrann ó Dhia thú,
nó go mba tú an réalt eolais
ag dul romham is 'mo dhiaidh thú.

Gheall tú síoda is saitin dom
    callaí 'gus bróga arda,
is gheall tú tar a éis sin
go leanfá tríd an tsnámh mé.
    Ní mar sin atá mé
ach 'mo sceach i mbéal bearna
    gach nóin agus gach maidin
    ag féachaint tí mo mháthar.
