It is against the rules to use a sandwedge outside of a bunker, which is a pity as it's a really useful club

to maim a robber.....oh! and then push them down the stairs and tell the guards he fell.

3 iron is that bit long to swing;)

    fullstop, soundsham behave!
Sand wedge has a high bounce angle which makes it harder for the club to 'dig' into the ground... so it's ideal from soft sand, softer turf and the rough.

If you play on links courses with firm turf then the high bounce angle will make the club less useful when playing shots from that turf (but obviously still good from the sand!)

really? I didn't know that. I sometimes use mine (instead of my 52 degree) to chip in from close to the green.

I'm pretty sure that isn't true, i just use my 56 degree wedge as my sandwedge.

I always tend to play lob wedge from a greenside bunker and also around the green. The only time I use my sand wedge is from 90 or so yards out (depending on the wind). But at the moment it's my favourite club because I seem to be very consistant with it from that distance and im happy with my ball striking with it.

I just cant seem to get on with a lob wedge only using it if in real trouble or short shots over a hazard with little green.
Any distance from 20yds to 110 I would use my SW I just seem to have much better control over height and length, I would be lost without the SW whereas the lob wedge is a real cross fingers and hope club for me

lads. go buy a "gap wedge" and leave the sand wedge at home.
Then buy a lob wedge and use it for the bunker shots and the spectacular over the oak tree from 20 yards off green shots.

    a mighty combination.

i never could understand people using a sand/lob wedge for short off green chips and flying the ball up into the air. the percentages for these shots are way too risky.

I'm not accurate enough to leave the ball behind every oak tree.....I must practice more.

I have a 52,56,60,i think you need the gap and the 56 for shots around the green, sometimes you have to carry over a certain amount of rough and the gap isn'tquite lofted enough, just because I use a sw aroud the green doesn't mean i loft it up in the air all the time.
To conclude i think a sw is an essential piece of equipment, also great for longer flatter bunker shots with less stop than the lw
