check out www.cheaptickets.com for flights, i got a great deal for thailand last year!

If you are staying in bangkok and are on a budget the D&D inn is great!its around €20 a night(€20 is the deader rooms). Its smack bang in the middle of the Khao San Road. It has a pool and bar on the roof and has a cool view of the hustle and bustle of bangkok!

Take internal flights, dont go on the bus. It saves a rough days travelling and its only about €10 extra.

If you are in Ko Tao and want some peace and quiet at a beauty of a spot then stay at the coral view resort. The owner is a really nice and the view is amazing!

Tuk Tuks are great fun......dangerous but great fun......try to agree a price before you get in.

Chang Mai Thailand's 2nd city is up in the north and is worth a look if you want to go jungle trekking, see a different side to Thailand etc.

Kho Phanghan is where the monthly full moon party is on - it is wild but well worth going to just to see 30,000 people partying on one beach. It is a beautiful island but turns into one week of maddness around full moon time

I'd advice spening a week or so doing Bangkok and Chang Mai. Maybe 2 weeks then on the southern islands of Kho Phanghan, Kho Samui, Kho Tao and Phi Phi. Internal flights is the way to travel specially if you're only there a short while

Invest in a travel guide like the lonely planet or rough guide. they are really good to have when travelling through any country. great tips on do's and dont's, how to respect culture, scams to watch out for, as well as restaurant and hotel recommendations.

if you get one for thailand, my only fault to the guide books is dont go by their transport suggestions - it tends to be a bit unpredictable.
