Shay Elliott I thought, coming from the Slieve Maan side. I'm usually so knackered at that stage that I just wish vile death upon the original sprayer. Still, it beats the toe-curling 'THANK YOU LANCE's painted on the road in the Phoenix Park. Pity they couldn't have been swapped.

Ah, you may be right. I'm totally mystified by it. It is accompanied by an arrow pointing up the road.

If more of us dressed like them we would be a lot safer on the road. If more of them dressed like us there would be a lot less careless/dangerous drivers on the roads.

An Garda in galway seem to cycle two abreast at all times, surely this is an awful example to set for other cyclists and roadusers?

Also if the bikes get muddy, who cleans them does anyone know?

They do it on horseback too, pain to have to overtake.

I tend to see them up on the footpath a fair bit.

I do remember cycling home through a path in a darkish park last year with a day glo vest on, a few people up ahead scattered and cans went everywhere and as I went by I heard something like "he's not a bleedin Gaurd Anto"

Do the bicycle guards have to make their own siren noises when they are cycling, is that what this thread is about? That must make things harder for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,922 ✭✭✭fergalr

Its great to see Gardai on bikes. For a start, I think they make drivers more concious of cyclists overall. Drivers tend to notice Gardai.

Its also gppd because having Gardai that cycle, as well as drive, means they can will hopefully things from the cyclists perspective too; and as Gardai are responsible for most of the traffic law enforcement, I think this is a good thing.

Any experience I've had of the gardai on bikes has been very positive, and I think its good to have them. Fair play to them, tbh.

Anyone ever get a chase from one??

I saw a GOB chasing (I think) a courier one day and shouting at him to stop. Said courier just laughed and took off

Ah good old Copsicles... best I heard from them was when they said they weren't big enough c**ts to get posted to the motorbikes... it appears that the Traffic Corps aren't liked, and the Motorbike Garda are liked even less :)

The two bike gardai I have spoken too were really sound.

True ....... I know someone who was up for promotion and definitely didn't want to get sent to Traffic - he reckoned if you did then for years afterwards, no matter where you got subsequently posted, you'd always be "that f&%ker / b0ll1x / c**t from Traffic"!!!

I am pretty sure getting posted to the bikes is something you specifically have to request, it's something they want to do. There is one of them on this forum BTW, he might have more info although on a thread like this

    Hauld yer whist there boss...
    Setting a bad example?
    What are you talking about?
Not only is it within the rules of the road to cycle 2 abreast, but it is actively encouraged.By this I mean that making oneself as visible as possible when using the road instead of hugging the kerb/ditch all the time.

Thats more or less the way, but the only way to get to driving the bikes is through the Traffic corps, most members in traffic get trained up.
