Yo quick question about this comp, it's my first ever BJJ comp and I'm wondering if a rashvest is allowed underneath the gi? Just a normal underarmour top that you'd wear to training. Dunno about anyone else but it's more comfortable than the gi on it's own.

    Cheers!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 165 ✭✭bella1

no unless you are a female .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 859 ✭✭✭BobbyOLeary

Cheers for that! Saves me the 100g at weigh in :pac:

Out of idle curiosity why is that rule in place? Loose t-shirts I can understand but a rashvest?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 165 ✭✭bella1

Good tournament. IP-Drysdale Jiu Jitsu had it's first outing as a team and we really enjoyed it. Thanks to all the crew, refs judges etc.

I'll eh, just go off and read a copy of the rule book now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭r_obric

was that you that got DQ for pulling down on the head in a triangle?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

No I got Dqed for a kneebar! I had a bit of a brain fart, I went for a sweep from 1/4 guard and when we scrambled, there was his leg. About halfway to finishing I thought "hold on I can't do this" and just as I was about to release I got called. Darren was almost out of it anyway so it wouldn't have mattered. I have no excuse for such a collosal act of idiocy.

Just posted the results @ http://www.bjj.ie/?p=244

Apologies if I got any of the results wrong, some of the handwriting on the brackets pages is pretty ropey :P Just let me know here or on bjj.ie and we'll rectify it.

Great tournament, very well run and i had some great matches. Dez if you got video of our match in the absolute i'd love to see it as my camera died after 20 seconds :( I would just request slightly better medals next time, mine don't even say anything on them and it's the irish open after all, pretty big tournament!

    Cheers, Mark

btw, one guy was DQed for pulling down on the head in a triangle,

is this a new rule?, cause i never heard of it before, and have seen it done at every comp before?

    Hey Mark,

I was fighting out of Athy BJJ, not SBG
    Joey Breslin 70kg white,

A question, if some one gets side control twice in a fight are they scored twice or once overall????, eg. in my fight with lukas, I established side control on two occasions and he took my back once.. the fight was scored 4-3 to lukas? my team mates were telling me i was winning on points and to just maintain position so i did and lost the fight, just wondering, dont want to make the same mistake again...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭r_obric

depends what position ou got side control from

In IBJJF rules under the children division Yes this is a rule... but NOT Adult. As far as I'm aware.

P.S thanks for setting up the Comp Andy and lads.

Well done to lads and Gals from Team Pedro Bessa Brazilian Jiujitsu 4 Gold 2 silver.
Also Karem Muhfimoglu is missing from the Result list ,he won his division 88 master's White.

When you say ,you got side control twice. Do you mean you passed guard (either half guard , open guard or full guard) on 2 occasions to gain side control, ?
If this is the case ,then you should get 3 points for each pass. If not ,then you just get the 3 points for the first pass.

    Hey liam,
yeah the first was at the start and to be honest i dont remember how i passed, the second was maintained for the last min, I escaped back control, he got on his knees and i shot in and passed... I should have proggressed to mount or knee on belly afterwards but was trying to play safe...... so im pretty sure it would be 2 seperate passes from the open guard...

    Thank you for clarifying that:)

and congrats to all your fighters;)

Dead on joey, thats sorted for you.

Heres my semifinal and final from the blue belt absolute. Shall have my other matches up at some point but at the minute my connection can only handle the mobile phone vids brian got rather than the nice high quality vids i got on my camera... until it died :(

Thanks Joey, glad you guys liked my matches! If anyone sticks up vids please post in this thread so we can all check them out. We're also looking for pictures, i tried taking a few today but i'm not the best photographer and for some reason i kept getting spots on the image too.

    That's sorted now Tom.

Just wanted to say thanks to the organisers.

    Had a great time.

All I need to do now is to learn some BJJ and I should be sorted.

Note to self...get some coaching on takedowns this week.

sounds like you should have got the 3 points, but as you said, should have progressed to Knee on belly , to at least get the additional 2 points. At least , you gained the experience for the next competition. Well done.
