Detox Question (Warning! Unlpleasent subject)

Hi all, I'm not sure if this would be the right place to post this, but if it is not I apologise.

I was looking in to having a Colonic cleanse (irrigation sounds horrible!) but it's very expensive. Does anyone know of a Detox that I could do for this?

I tried one before, but I lost interest in it because I had to take it over five days. I'm looking for a quick clear out that doesn't involve major diets or disruption. Or am I fooling myself?

I'm off all next week and I thought it would be the time to do it.

    Cheers :)

I assume the irrigation you talk about is an enema?

Talk to your doctor about doing one. I know there are kits to do it at home, but get a docs opinion.

Do it after a bowel movement and it should be easier, or so my gay friend told me. You will get cramps but my friend says it's not THAT bad.

Drop caffeine, sugar and alcohol from your diet for 7 days.

Eat lean protein (eggs, soya - great for girls, notsomuch for boys - tofu, cottage cheese and greek yoghurt), plenty of vegetables and fruit (the leafier and greener the better, plenty of berries, dates & figs will do just as much to cleanse your bowels as sticking a pipe up your arse will), complement it with some brown/ basmati rice and lots of green tea and water.

Get 7-9 hours of sleep a night and if you can manage it do some myofascial release or self-massage to encourage lymphatic drainage and improve all-round wellbeing.

Kind of, but I think an enema doesn't clear out as much. Home kit eh?
    Thanks for your advice.

See I'm lazy, I'd rather get the pipe up my arse than do that!
    That's terrible isn't? :(

    A little bit, yeah ;)

The thing is, colonic irrigation isn't 'detox' per say because all it's doing is flushing out the stuff that's already been detoxed from your body. To really give yourself a good ol' clean you need to do it from the inside out.

Dropping caffeine and alcohol and drinking plenty of water for a week is a good start. I know the no-sugar thing can be a bit of an upheaval but if you were to drop chocolate, cake, sweets, cereals and ice cream it would be a great start :)

For the record your body is well capable of detoxing itself. Things don't build up in you unless you have kidney or liver failure.

It's obviously better for you to not make your body work so hard to detoxify - but going on some mad detox diet is doing more harm than good. Eating healthily like in g'em's post, even if you only do it 80% of the time (that gives you a generous 20% of wiggle room for the odd takeaway) is far more beneficial.

I'm could drop the sweets and cake. Coffee and bread I don't know. I usually give in to temptation and then feel worse. But I most definitely must increase my water intake. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. :)

I'm just feeling a bit sluggish lately. Maybe it's because I haven't been going to the gym, but even when I was I still felt a bit bleugh. (can't think of any other way to describe it)
I eat ok, bread is my enemy. I love it.

Check out Jennifer in Total Wellbeing in Rathfarnham. Everyone I know that has gone to her and has raved about her! My friend lost a ton of weight after she did one session of clearing out toxins.

I was shocked when I dropped bread from my diet. Felt way better. If you dont eat bread for a few months the next time you do the first thing that hits you is how salty it is, then how heavy on the guts it is. Doesn't make much diff with the type either. It can be white bread or the stuff that looks like its made from the doins on the bottom of a budgie cage. Much the same effect.

I get the addiction to coffee too. OK I cant stand the stuff, but I'd go through 8 - 10 cups of black tea that would melt the spoon a day. Caffeine in both cases. Teas far better for you though especially the green stuff. The more bitter the better too. Start off on the teabags and then maybe get some of the good green stuff. They say its less caffeine than black, but the good stuff wires/wakes me up

If you think about it we were never "designed" to eat sugar the way we do. In the wild honey once or twice a year and fruit in season and that was your lot. Complex carbs yes, but a lot of veg and good protein and we were far more active. Find me an overweight hunter gatherer type of either gender with insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes or "toxins" that need a hosepipe and you win a prize:D

Bloody hard to do all that with the temptations around though. My diets grand, but I've given up the smokes. Finally after a few attempts. Jesus I went mental I can tell you. And I was clearly killing myself by installments. So I can well understand the gra for cakes and coffee and such. If someone had told me a high powered enema would have sorted me I may have gone for it myself TBH.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Your friend lost weight temporarily because her intestines were emptied, that's all. She could have lost the same amount of weight with an oul' laxative to be fair. It all goes back on within a few days when your intestines fill back up again (to their natural state).
