Cover Letter/CV advice!

    Hey,

Just looking for a little advice re my cover letter. I recently lost my job in September. It was in the education sector, and with a well respected institution. I was on contract and was let go due to a declining number of incoming foreign students, which is a common problem in the sector atm.
Basically, I want to know if I should include the fact I was let go in my cover letter, or just leave the gap to be explained in an interview if I get one?

All advice will be greatly appreciated...

Your cover letter should contain no bad news. :)

Just leave it in your CV and have a positive spin ready should they ask any questions about it.

I wouldn’t mention anything in the cover letter.

I wouldn’t leave an unexplained gap in the CV either.

Maybe you could put something like Sept 2009 -> date: Since my contract at ‘x’ expired I have been actively seeking employment, or just the date & Actively seeking employment.

I’d hazard a guess that most CVs being submitted recently would be from people who are unemployed, so don’t worry too much about it.
