I use Lush Henna Hair Products cos I suffer with psoriasis on my scalp and I find this nice and gentle, can only darken tho!!

I've heard really good things about the LUSH Henna.

If you're feeling that bored though, why not find a really creative hairstylist and tell her to do whatever? I mean, if you're willing to shave half your head, it can't be any more crazy than that, and I doubt you'll be bored :D

Oooh, super interesting. I'd love to give my hair a bit of colour, but I refuse to dye it... the upkeep is far too expensive. I shall have to take a (yet another) trip to Lush :D

I admire that, my mother is exactly the same...Now she is 51 and her hair was jet black so the few greys that are creeping in unfortunately look a little exaggerated, and every time she goes to get her hair cut they ask would she consider dying it, unfortunately for them it makes there tip considerably less!Lush is great there products are fantastic, but sometimes i go in just because the staff are so happy and chirpy!

Yep I love all the lush products but especially the henna hair dye. I normally put it in before bed and leave it over night, I wrap my hair in cling film and wear a hat to bed, attractive I know!! The result is a nice even colour, fabulously conditioned hair and no chemicals!!

I dont work for Lush I swear I just love the stuff :D

I use Caca Brun, my hair is kinda mousey brown dark blonde naturally a bit of a non colour really and this just makes it a little darker with a glorious shine. I have used most of them except the Noir I think this would probably be a little dark for me. The Marron give a lovely chesnutty brown lovely when I fancy a change.

Dont be scared at all, just remember don't use the whole block you wont need it, try to apply it standing in the bath cos it can be messy and put an old pillow case on if you're gonna sleep in it!!

Let me know how you get on x

And while you girls are in there, ask if they have a sample of Dark Angel. Another messy product but I swear my skin never feels clean unless I have a good old scrub with this!!

Also money wise is it fairly expensive? I mean i know Lush can sell you things as per weight is that the case with the hair dye?

Ooh, thanks for the advice! I'm thinking Caca Marron myself, would love a bit more red in my hair.

I actually think its cheaper that other home dye products. I have to order it online cos we don't have a Lush shop down here (thank god for that or I'd be broke). It costs me about 15 euros I think to order it from the UK including postage and I get about 3 goes from a full bar cos my hair is very fine.

If you have an intolerance to dye's, make sure you definitly do a skin test though!
I used to dye my hair & one day I burned the head offa myself, now I can't dye it at all, I've tried a few different ones

But used a henna dye & it did the same thing..

Hope you find somethin you like ;)

Just wondering, can you actually get this stuff in Dublin?
I'd like to give it a try

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 269 ✭✭Jood

Moonbaby - it's more of a semi permanent colour and seems to wear off after about a month or six weeks as opposed to grow out. Although I'm sure it never full wears off but i haven't been left with any roots since I started using it.

There's two shops in Dublin I always go to the one in Henry Street when I'm up not sure where the other one is.

It's on grafton street I think. I tried the lush henna there a few weeks ago. My hair is dark brown, almost black and I put in the red one. It didn't turn my hair bright red, it's far too dark for that but it has a nice red tint off it, I didn't leave it on overnight as I didn't want it too bright.

Tip: when you're melting the block of henna in boiling water, grate it if you have a cheese grater handy, it's much easier to melt overall, it's also the weirdest sensation, the smell I can only describe as being like curry paste and it looks like a cowpat going on. It's probably best to wrap your head in clingfilm as well like was suggested as it dries it flakes and you'll end up with henna all over the place. And it rinses out easier if you lob some conditioner into your hair when rinsing. I'm in Dublin at the weekend, I might just get myself another block. :D

Thanks for all the tips, i was just telling my mate about it we said wed have an nice girly day and round it off with the dye and some cocktails hehe:) ooooohhh soooooooo excited :)

    I did it!

Got the henna in Lush on Grafton street, it was €10.50 for a block of 6 squares. The girl in-store was pretty helpful, but not totally accurate on the information... I had watched a couple of youtube tutorials though, so I had a good idea of what I was supposed to be doing!

I have pretty long hair, so she told me to use all 6 squares - there was a good bit left, next time I'll just use 4. My lovely friend came over to help me do it, so we grated the stuff and covered it with boiling water - I used too much! It wasn't really the right consistency, but it worked anyway :) Left the bowl over a pan of simmering water on the stove to keep it warm and worked away.

I sectioned my hair into six parts and my friend used a pastry brush to apply it to my roots and hair... I'd definitely reccommend using a brush for it, since the roots would have been tricky to get at otherwise! It took about half an hour to get it all in my hair, then I wrapped it in cling film and a towel.

Four hours later, I washed it off, and totally destroyed the shower :P It looked like a mud bath when I was done!! It washed off the tiles easily - but it took three washes to get it out of my hair, since the henna is a bit gritty. It all came out with the conditioner though, and the colour is great! Really rich and with more than a hint of red. I do have a few wispy ginger bits around my hairline, but those parts of my hair would have been lighter in colour anyway!

I'll definitely be doing it again :) The colour is gorgeous and it's left my hair in great condition - it also seems really manageable and really good value! I used the Caca Maron, and this is how my hair looks now...

Ignore the face and focus on the hair, thanks :P

It looks fab Shellyboo really nice I did mine yesterday too really happy with it, it is very messy but well worth it. My hair would be a little longer than yours but much finer so I find that two bits are usually enough it is trial and error for a while with it tho. Thanks for a great review too!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 129 ✭✭xcarriex

Your hair looks FABOOOSH!!! I got the same one, and yeah the girl was pretty helpful, though i may youtube some tutorials as i took her words as gospel, they even gave me some rubber gloves :) haha mam will have a nervous break down if she see's the mess, im getting the cut in tonight and then i shall be putting the colour in either tonight or 2moro...if i can blur the facial features, i may put up a pic too hehe :D

Looks gorgeous shellyboo, I might try this myself actually. Been dying to change the colour but 2 salons tested my hair and told me it was a bad idea to use salon colour bcoz my hair is so fine. I'll have to look into this more!

Thanks! Yeah, I have a lot of hair :o I had loads left over, will try just 4 next time, I have a feeling even that will be a bit too much! But better too much than too little :)

Definitely look up a couple of tutorials and reviews, I got some great tips from them, like the one about the pastry brush! Stick to the instructions in the Lush Times as well rather than listening to the girl, I think!

As for a pic, take one of the back of your head :P

If people want to try henna products but are put off by the work involved with traditional henna, there is a great product made from henna that applies like cream. It goes on like a mix between normal home dye kits and a conditioning treatment.
