    Hey,

I'm in the market for an amp/cab. Along my travels I've come across 3 around my price bracket.
    • Gallien Krueger GT400RBIV
    • Peavey Tour 450
    • Ashdown MAG 300h

All of them are listed at close to 350 euro. Any recommendations?

I'm also looking for a compact light cab, a 1x15 @ 4 ohms. This is where I find real problems. My budget is about 300 for this... Can't go over it...

    What ya's think?

    Cheers!

Ashdown is always a good bet, the list price on the Mag 300H is €329.00 and a 1 x 15" cab with 4 Ohms in the Ashdown is going to be €665.00 (List price before discount or online retailers). You can however get an Ashdown Mag 300 Evo II Combo, 1 x 15" with the option for an external speaker for a list price of €505.00. Im not 100% up to date with the GK or the Peavey.

    Hope this helps somewhat.

The weight would be my main problem with the combo, sick of lugging around gear! Thanks though!

    Ampeg SVT Micro

I'd stretch the budget a small bit for one of these... Ampeg are awesome and you woudn't regret it! not much more mind and if you buy it via UK or somewhere else it'll probably be cheaper.

    Cabinet to match?

    Ampeg SVT-210AV for €299...

    It's not your 1 x 15" but 2 x 10" would be fairly handy...

Ah I'd say it would be yeah, depends how big a gig your planning to play but any gigs that are that big will probably be re-mic'd through the PA anyways...

I dunno if I could risk buying on tyhe hope that it will be loud enough as a stand alone aswell... Looks savage though, would love to try one out!

Waltons do Ampeg but I couldn't guarantee they'll have that one in stock... Worth a shot though if you're in Dublin... If you're not I'll pop in later and check it out if you like...

Went with the GK head in the end, couldn't be happier! Got a great deal on it, all I need now is a cab which is proving to be a cnut...

I'l looking for a light 4 ohm cab for less then 400 euro, is that so much to ask?!?!?!?

    Any ideas? :P

    Thanks

Well these are the lads I got it from, it was a demo model they put on ebay, dunno where they got it from to be honest... http://www.musictechnology.ie/

The head is great though, feckin tons of power in it and with a little fiddling you get get a huge range of sound, the EQ is great! Dunno any Irish retailers unfortunately :(

Ideally I'd be looking for a 1x15 but a 2x10 wouldn't be the end of the world I suppose. I've checked out the peabey tbx cabs? At 4 ohm they're loud, decent sound but weights a feckin ton, or 36kg, cant remember :P The Marshall MBC is lighter at 32kg, great sounds, extremely reliable and a front runner at the moment.

Haven't found any 4 ohm ashdown cabs though, the abm and mag range seem to be 8ohms.

My perfect cab would be a 1x15 4 ohm that weighed as close to 1kg as possable :pac:

Well glad to see you skipped some of the poor choices you had mentioned. That head is savage.

If your looking for a 4Ohms cab then most of them are pretty powerful and heavy cause your generally just going to use the one cab, unless you wanna run a 2ohm load.

I use Ampegs 410HLF, its a 4ohm cab and it can get seriously loud. Touch on the heavy side for my liking at the moment, but its a fantastic cab and I've not heard a bad report about one yet or a disappointed owner. It could do with some rubber wheels...

If i was you I'd stick to GK. They've got some great cabs and I've heard one at a local festival last year and we had to strap the head to the cab cause some of the bands where driving it so hard, so there is plenty of whack out of them.

Not looking for something heavy and all the GK cabs are 8 Ohms.

    Thanks though.

The Americans seem to get it right, cheap powerful lightweight cabs but they won't share the love. Damn you Carvin and Avatar!

Yeah 350, was plugged it to see if it worked and wasn't touched since :D

Check out a few UK sites for the GK 700RB, the pound is 90p to the euro at last look so you'll get a great deal!
