Hi was hoping some of the dentists on the board might help me with this: Following a deep filling after a root canal treatment (on a lower molar) one side of the tooth broke off. I visited a dentist (not my usual dentist as i've moved to dublin) She reckons i'll need a crown supported by post which I was told will cost about 1,000. Is it not possible to get resin composite crowns without a need for a post these days and would ceramic crowns with post not cost a bit less than 1,000? Thanks.

The answer to your first question is no, not if you want it to last. The answer to your second question is shop around, you can get it for cheaper.

Thanks for the reply. Makes seeing as only one side of the tooth is present that a post is needed i suppose! Will try some other places around so, would like to get it done down south if I can get it a little cheaper.

just remember, "do you want it done cheap or do you want it done right?", only comparison ill make for the public is when I say, "a friend of mine got a real nice car very high spec for 30,000 at the weekend, and the other guy says, wwhaaaaat he was robbed I got a yoke for 500!"

Centric, take a look at website www.smilemakers.ie. This is a feeder clinic for Access Smile in Hungary, they do the pre consultations, some treatments and aftercare. Now take a look at the prices quoted on website, they are substantially more than most irish dentists charge. But how can this be?, a foreign dentist coming here and charging more than €200 a crown, why are they charging more for the same crown in Dublin as they are providing in Hungary?, how come the dentist cannot provide it for the same price? . Could it be that they realise that the cost of doing treatment here is higher?, who knows?.

And I'd wager they use the same friendly eastern european labs for any cr/bridgework they provide here.

When I was setting up my clinic I looked at two things, prices up north and prices in eastern europe, when I did I was shocked that their prices are the same or even higher. They were only cheaper (slightly) than those dentists based in dublin city centre, and im asuming their prices are higher naturally for higher rents, higher wages etc!

If people talk to me about price and how much cheaper it is in eastern europe and up north I tell them to go for it! Because I know that the lab i use is much better quality and I stand behind my work! Its that simple! You wana go somewhere else then please do! But I wont be taking care of it when you come back!

Take a look at the pictures on that site, looks like periodontal disease is not such a big issue in eastern Europe cause badly involved teeth are suitable abutments over there.
