Probably because they are an affront to your eloquence. Hence the reason you feel compelled to comment on one using an ironic lack of capitalisation.

I dislike so many repeat threads.

But in order to be positive, I really enjoy threads regarding peoples biking stories such as race reports, sportif reviews, touring, training methods.

I voted for red lights. I DO stop for them, now stop annoying me about it and making threads on the cycling forum asking why cyclists don't stop for them. Argh!

I actually think those ones should be closed immediately with a link to one of the older threads. I can't seem to help reading them, and when I do it just makes me angry that these idiots on bikes are ruining it for everyone else.

I know AH is tongue in cheek, but some of the "I hate cyclists" comments have made me wonder if I'm going to get an umbrella in the spokes, fist in the face, etc.

Recommend me a sh!t hot bike for €80 and don't go trying to convince me that I need to spend €250 like you flash gits - I know I can get a sh!t hot bike for €80 and now tell me what it is!!!!

It's not a car ffs, I had a 10 euro bike for years that did me fine! Argh!

Or the "I want a brand new quality racer but I don't want to spend more than 200 euro".

Ok, I have to stop reading this thread now.

I hate the threads that bang on about cycling fashion faux pas... "oh should my overshoes match my bartape?" "is it acceptable to have socks with a blue stripe whilst my cotton cap is mostly red?"

Oh wait, I start all those threads. Man I love those threads.

could we work on a more definitive decision tree for people?

A dedicated thread where post 1 was budget (or intended use or colour). Links to various price points available. In those links you were met with intended bike use options (or price).

each of those options spits you out at three bikes at that price, for that use.

Might be worth just putting some information in the wiki on what sort of bike people consider appropriate for different uses and specific bikes posters consider "good value" for a given bike type at a given pricepoint (this does change with sales and price changes etc.)

Of course you will often have disagreement as to whether a full carbon weight weenie road racer or a full on cargobike complete with room for two kids and the shopping is the best bet for someone looking to commute to work and maybe get a bit fitter.

Hi folks. Just throwing this out as an idea for debate. Would the users on the site favour immediate closure and redirection of certain thread types. We all k ow the type repetitive antagoniic threads re road behaviour, helmets, etc.

I find they are becoming more prevalent.

Would welcome feedback as to whether this is warranted, workable, OTT or could have unintended consequences.

    Thanks

I hate when all of these threads get repeated.

It's like it follows some sort of cycle.

One of the most annoying things is when you spend a fair bit of time composing a good genuine reply to someone's "Which light" or "Which bike" thread, and one week later someone just throws up the same question again without even bothering to search or resurrect the original thread

Would also be useful to have the order components come in, e.g. Super Record > Record > Chorus>..... I often find people will buy a giant bike but don't realise that half the parts aren't made by giant!

The only posts which annoy me are the 'I saw a cyclist do this, ye are all wan*ers'.

I was once one of the help me pick a bike posters, now when I see similar I just think one more of us, one less of them....

This forum has many faces to it and tbh its very easy to ignore a thread and simply not open or read it. What I find amusing is how the thread topics change throughout the year,
    Late winter= mtb mtb mtb
early spring= help get back on my bike/ help me buy a bike
early summer= I need to by gear/help me with a problem with my new bike
late summer= I want to up grade my bike
Early autumn= help me buy winter gear
late autumn= help me winterfy my bike
winter= I havent cycled in weeks/ help me buy a (insert cycling related product) for my bf/gf who cycles

    You could add in:

First rainy day: What overshoes/jacket should I get
Early winter: Which turbo should I buy
All the time: I want to build a fixie. Please someone give me a free frame.

Shimano and SRAM are not Italian though so no point considering them. :)

But no agree, i would have each brand seperate (Dura ace>Ultegra..) and then you could give some detail as to what is comparable.
Wheels could be more tricky but might be worth saying something on them also.
