Club fitting in GUI Academy, Carton

Has anyone been up recently? I play off one but have never been fitted before and am thinking of taking the plunge having gotten a few quid together. Having said that, I'm fairly skeptical as to the difference it makes, particularly to the lower handicapped amateur player. Any success stories would be entertained with pleasure :)
The clubs I'm looking at are the cobra blades or pro cavities, shouldn't be a problem since Acushnet clubs seem to be the only on offer at the facility. I live nearby as well, so for handyness, I doubt I'd go anywhere else. Anyhoo, any accounts of the technology they use or the helpfulness of the staff would be appreciated. Thanking y'all!

Why limit yourself to just one brand?

And Carton only carry two brands Titlist and Cobra I think.

Take a trip to the Grange driving range in Kinsealy, they have a Miguirks shop in-house, fully stocked with demo clubs on all the big brands. So you can just pay for a bucket of balls and borrow as many clubs as you like.
Then if your happy with a few, there ate pro's available to help custom fit, and they have the same flight-trajectory computer as Carton house.

I don't have any connection, I'm just a frequent user.

So can you try out a couple of clubs in a set there? Places I've been they have like a big Taylor Made bag, different models, but just 6 irons. Their not fussy about giving out clubs than so?

As I said in a different thread I'm going to buy new irons so it could come in handy

Not a low handicapper liek your good self, but I was amazed at the difference that a proper fitting provided. Off 1 I would expect less dramatic changes to your game but still you may find adjustments in loft or lie or driver shaft kick points, etc, etc quite beneficial in ways you wouldn't have thought of.

As a worst case scenario you may find that standard loft, standard lie, and off the shelf shafts are your best thing, in which case you can have the confidence that you are playing with the best equipment for you.

I would agree with not limiting yourself to one brand though. I ended up with KZG's after trawling all the Brandnames. For me at the time they felt better and looked better than most of what I had seen before.

    Good luck with it all!!!

Our resident doyen of golf, gorfield, got a set of the Taylor Made forged irons this spring.

He might be able to advise you on the benefits of fitting at that level.

would depend on your height, swing characteristics, etc... may be that your clubs already suit you fine. i have 1/2" longer pro 690 mbs as im 6'2" with x-stiff shafts due to my natural speed. got them done in fore golf (off the naas-newbridge road). i would recommend them highly.

Right now I'm using Wilson PI 5's which have been extended by half an inch. The extension was based on the advice of a pro who said casually during a lesson a while back that the standard irons I had at the time were too short (I'm 6 1). I'm comfortable with the length but don't really know if trajectory or lie angle have been influenced and would be interested to find out. The lengthening may not have been necessary at all of course, but I'd probably request at least a quarter inch at the fitting as a placebo whether it's recommended or not!
Also, I've had the Wilsons for 3 seasons now and am looking for a change back to forged blades. Not really considering many other clubs, once I like a club aesthetically I can usually get used to it without difficulty and the cobras are as nice as I've seen. Although rumour has it they've stopped producing the particular set I'm after so hoping they've a couple of sets left!

I do belive a good fitting is very benefictial to the game. not long ago, i was in desperate need of something to up my game big time as it was stale around the 21 handicap!! I came across a brand named KZG so i went along to the shop and i came out smilling. got customed fitted and the clubs looked fanastic. The best of it is now i have a handicap of 16 and have complete trust in my clubs! I have gone back to them twice for an improvement on the clubs i have and added a couple more hybrids in the bag!!! Really worthwhile to get yourself fitted...:):)

i tried the cobra blades in fore when they were fitting me & theyre a beautiful looking club. i was hitting them about 10yds less than the 690s & higher...so i stuck with what i had & just re-shafted...the guy there didnt in any way try the hard sell, just what suited me best.

I believe every inch of change in length affects the lie angle by 1 degree, so half an inch would make little or no difference at all.

Can you get measured and just get the shafts and lies changed as in keep your own heads. how much would that cost.

I got my own irons customised for loft and lie for about €100 as far as I remember... same shafts, just bent the heads (Titleist 735's, forged steel so they were easily adjustable).

I just picked up a set of R7 tp's. They seem about 1/4 of an inch longer and the lie angle is too upright. I wonder could you recommend someone alter the length/lie. Whichever is necessary. Thanks.

Anyone ever try this place for custom fitting? Suppossed to be the biz and i'm thinking of going myself. Long drive from Galway, but it's been recommended by a few people to me.
