Coffee for work

So, I'm a recent convert to coffee...and have been wondering how I lived for so long without it!!

I make espressos at home on my Gaggia, using either Illy or Lavazza, both of which I really like.
I'm even making a double espresso in the mornings, bringing it to work in a thermos and adding hot water to a mug once I get there. So I've decided, to save time/to sleep more, I'm going to bring in a little french press into work so I can have a decent cup of coffee(or three) during the day.

My question is, what is the best brand of coffe I can use in a french press? I bought a bag of Robert Rbts(I think) Java...and to be honest it tasted pretty funky(funky bad not funky good) any advice, oh wise ones?

Take a read of this for some ideas.

You should consider picking up a grinder to go with that gaggia. Freshly ground is the way to go.

the choices are endless, and a lot depends on what flavours you want in your cup. check out www.hasbean.co.uk you will find reviews for all the types of coffees for sale including the cupping notes which advise what method of brewing the coffee suits that particular bean. good value to be made with the current exchange rates.

you should also consider investing in the hario 1 cup brewer with filters from karl in coffeeangel, there is a thread on it here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055675586

I got it for the office and what I love about it most is that if I do get distracted by work stuff I don't have my coffee overextracting in the french press and of course there is no sludge :)

For use in the office, I don't think you can beat an Aeropress.
You can use a finer grind than the French press so you might even
get away with using the same coffee as you're using at home.
Aeropress is also pretty indestructible and very quick/easy to clean up.

Thanks for all the replies...made some interesting reading.

Unfortunately, at the minute I'm working for beans(not coffee beans:rolleyes:) so can't afford to invest in any more machinery!

I'll still get some decent espresso at home in the evenings. So I'm just looking for something cheap and cheerful for work that won't make me think of wet mud when I'm drinking it!!
