For anyone who didn't see it, this is a great documentary and would be worth the purchase.

I didn't and don't have access to the heretofore mentioned media, so I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it

Is that the guy who was named after a mountain climb? :)

Seriously, I may have seen Shay Elliott in action. Ras Tailteann went through Tullamore in the mid 1950s. My father brought me to see a bicycle race going past the railway station when I was 4 or 5. I was disappointed as the cyclists were there and gone in about twenty seconds.

I saw it on Setanta and will buy it.

Shay would not have been in that race. His club (Dublin Wheelers) were members of the C.R.E., whereas the Ras was an N.C.A. race. Shay never competed in the Ras, only the Tour of Ireland.

You should be able to buy it in PowerCity and HMV. I'm not aware of it being available online other than through Bromley Video.

Very good video : and about time Shay's story was put to film.

When the TDF came here in 1998, I was talking to Paul Kimmage and I suggested that he write an article about Shay in the Sunday Indo simply because everyone was talking about Sean kelly, Stephen Roche, martin Earley etc and their careers.
I said that I thought that Shays achievements were being overlooked in all the publicity.

Kimmages piece appeared in the Sunday Indo edition on 28th June 1998.

Kimmage phoned me a few days later and thanked me for the suggestion saying that he had received a great reaction from many readers.

Out of that, I'm told, the idea of the video about Shay germinated

Great to see guys like Peter Crinnion talking about SE.
When Peter used train us, he always spoke about SE.
