Upside-down sandwich row

Can someone please explain to me why these haven't been invented yet? The bench press is by far the most popular exercise in the gym, yet there is no opposite movement for the upper back. I'v tried bent over rows, but my form goes awful when the weights get heavy, and they tire you're lower back .T-Bar rows don't give the same ROM, and pull ups are too vertical. Its too hard to add weight to inverted rows. So basically, here's the solution. a lying down lat pull, with extra padding on top to keep you in place. I feel it's only a matter of time before every gym has one. Sorry for the poor illustration, it's the best I could do.benchreverse.jpg

Emmm the bench row hasn't been invented yet? Is there a man waiting outside my door with a DeLorean?

Bench row doesn't work because the benches are all too low, you can't fully extend you're arms. And when you pull the bar up, it hits the underside of the bench.

This topic sounded delicious. I feel let down.

On topic: a low cable row or a bench row with a cambered bar.

Ya I thought this was gonna be you telling us how you prefer to eat you sandwich upside down and how you got into an arguement over it ;)

I reckon though that would give a nice burn to your back, surely it would be easy enough to get a bench and put it underneath a cable pulldown.

And as for the thing to hold you in place, well ya know the way you ask people to spot ya for the bench, just ask them to sit on your chest while you do this ;)

Seriously, it's been invented. Yours actually isn't that bad an idea and I love your drawing but I don't think this one will make you your millions. Also I've seen lads doing the same thing with a cable crossover/pulley and a normal bench.

There's a cambered bar for just that thing.

Yeah, a sandwich made from people doing barbell rows, how about one for olympic lifters. Snatch burger maybe?

Why not try body weight pull ups using the bar on the smith machine with your feet rested on a bench or some other object that allows your body to be parallel to the floor.

What about supine rows, little bit less complicated!

Problem with Supine rows and Inverted rows is you can't really do them weighted unless you have one of those x-vests. There's really no option other then my diagram.

Feet elevated on bench, plate resting on stomach.

    Dumbell between your teeth?

Or, controversial I know... a bench row!

Stick a 20kg plate in a backpack and wear it on your front spanish student style. Wrap in a towel to buffer/cushion it so it sits on you more comfortably.

If you do rows on rings you can get an even better ROM, as you can pull you hands right down.

we all know the real hero of rows is the t-bar row....everything else is just pants...and not good pants either...the kind that chafe you after about 5 minutes...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

How about you all man up and do benchless "sandwhich rows"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 217 ✭✭hardtrainer

Get two steps and put your bench on top of them, one under each end. Hey presto...now you can extend your arms fully. Works fine. Would be better with one of those cambered bars though...I want one of them.

Yep, I use a close grip row attachment around the bar. That and small diameter plates, legs a little bent with back near paralell to the floor. That way I get loads of range. A great exercise.

Doesn't quite work if you have arms like an orang utan like me, but should for most.

He's probably already invested heavily in a prototype.
