    Hey guys

I'm in Crunch at the moment, was there for a 18mths and left for two months then and renewed my contract a few months ago. I'm on a DD payment but I'm wondering if I'm stuck in a contract with them now? If I cancelled the DD would they send me bills? See the problem is that I really want to move to oneescape as they're doing an offer at the mo that seems good and to be honest it seems to have a better range of equipment.

    Thanks a mil

Have you signed up for a new contract with them? Do you still have time left on that contract?

If yes, cancelling the DD will only cause you problems. A contract is a contract. The way you pay it is up to you, but you have to pay it.

See I'm not sure, as far as I know they just renewed my old membership

    ask them out right.

Or, just ring your bank and cancel the DD.
if you get a letter from crunch about it, just say you fulfilled your 18 month contract and that you;re moving house and it's no longer a suitable gym for you to be a member of.

Just rang there, he said a new account was set up so I'm on a contract for a year, is this right though when I only signed a DD form? I didn't sign a new membership form or anything.. Apparently the only way to get out of it is to pay 50Euro to transfer it to a friend or 100Euro to cancel it. Can't really afford to do that right now so I guess I'll stick it out for the time being.

ask them for a copy of the contract you signed with this on it, and say that you will be with holding payment untill the provide it. As you haven't signed a new contract they won't be able to do anything unless the direct debit states the contract duration

Unethical yes but just do this if you find they are not helping you out or tricking you.

Set up a new current account and transfer your current funds over leaving nothing in the direct debit account.

Ideally, what one should do when setting up a direct debit account is to set up another current account, put just enough money into DD account via standing order in online banking (timed each month) so that only that amount of money comes out.

People don't realise that when paying with direct debit, you have very little protection as a consumer and if they take additional money out, it's very difficult to get it back.
