    Hi All,

Don't think I have ever posted in the motors thread before. Was just wondering if anyone in here could help me out?

I was planning on going down to wexford to look at a few cars tomorrow. (bit of a spin as I live in Limerick) and was wondering if anyone has had any dealings with Shane Keegan Motorfit garage in Rosslare? Some ok cars there but I cant find out anything about them good bad or indifferent online.

Basically I'm not super savvy when it comes to cars and it's a long way to go and a lot of money to spend (for me at the moment) to find out yer man is a gangster and lied through his teeth when selling it.

He'd mainly deal with imports from what I remember. Lots of UK reg stuff last time I passed the garage.

There are a few cars tipping about in Wexford with his surrounds on, so i'd presume he's selling something to someone. As usual, if you can bring a mechanic with you, then do so. I wouldnt buy a car from him without getting it checked over first. Check the history too.

    Hi. Thanks for post.

Checked the history with motorcheck.ie and it's not an import. Irish car with no outstanding finance.

Motorcheck.ie came back clean as a whistle by all accounts.

Don't really know any mechanics to bring with me I'm afraid. And I'm always dubious of a local mechanic, near a local dealer, checking a car out for someone from the other side of the country.

Is there a particular reason why you would recommend getting a car checked out for this dealer or do you apply the same reasoning to all dealers?

I know it makes sense, but I'm just wondering.

Car has 4 months left on manufacturers warranty also if that makes any difference?

I'd still get it checked out... Any link to the car in question?

One should always bring a mechanic but given what you said in your first post, you definitely need one

dont get me wrong I know none of them are honest. But you know in your own local area which ones must totally be avoided.

Can anyone recommend me a decent mechanic in rosslare that I migh be able to talk into having a look at short notice?

The AA offer a vehicle inspection if that's amy use to you.

just rang the aa. there must be a cheaper option than that!

on a side note, can anybody tell me when a timing belt needs changed on an accord? I googled it. Found one report that they use timing chains and never need changed and 2 with totally different mileages so Im more confused than when I started!!

The AA are expensive but very very thorough

are they? i just read in another post about how they were hugely overpriced, the qualifications they have are their own (ie not registered ewngineers), and dont do a very good job!

My dad got one a few years ago and they identified absolutely everything!

thats great. good to know you get something for all the money. tbh the tight budget i am on doesnt really stretch to that amount of money (yes, i do realise getting nothing done could cost a lot more in the long run). I will ring a few garage / mechanics in rosslare in the morning first and see what price they quote me.

On a side note, I found the same car (06 though not 07) in wexford town from a main honda dealer. would that be a safer purchase or are they just they just as hit and miss as the independants?

I have not bought many cars, hence all the silly (most likely) questions.

    Hi

I bought a car of Shane Keegan last year, he has a great name in Rosslare , stands over all his cars., provides full service history, he even taxed our car for a year

    Hi Berni doc,

I live in Rosslare, and im interested in buying a car from Shane too. Can I call around to your house and have a chat with you about Shane and his customer service? I'd just like to see what its like from a customer before I buy it.

    All the best,

    Gullible.

I was with my dad when he got a jeep off motorfit a while ago and Shane was an absolute gent. The jeep's still running like new and Shane was only a phonecall away if my da had anything to ask.

One of the better dealers in the Wexford area.
