AWT is the same as the passats of that year, should be loads of them about. With auto though, not so many. Not 100% sure but I think the auto engines have a slightly different crank shaft.
UK market always had more auto's

spoke to a fellow who knows a lot about these matters. he told me these engines are impossible to get. problem apparently with them is oil starvation.

What's the problem with your engine?

Oil pump is nackered, plus a couple other problems that might be belt related?

Essentially I've spilt too much cash into her to get the engine rebuilt and figure to hell with it buy a new car. Which i am doing.

However I love my A6 so much i'd still be willing to put a 2nd hand engine into her to give her a few more years of driving.

Oil pump and pick up pipe is not expensive for this engine, nor are big end shells/timing belt kit water pump and bits and bobs would do the lot and still have change from 1000 euros
    What year is it?

Jesus parts alone i've been told is 1200 to fix it, also fitting all the gear is an addtional 5-600 euro total 1800-2k. These are "friendly" prices too.

    2001 model btw

There not that friendly!! I know of two garages close to me(in dublin) that could do it.The pipe is 20 euro, the pump is 230 euro, the labour on that is 250
the timing kit is 100(for genuine) the water pump is 70(aftermarket with the metal impeller) the big end shells are 65 labour is about 250 comes in at under the grand (just!!)both garages are well used to audi and vw engines

PM me the garages cos 1k is far less than the 2k i've been quoted by 1 garage and 1800 by a friend.
