Shoes soaked even with overshoes

    hi all

I have a pair of dhb R1 shoes. When it's raining, I have Endura Road Overshoes which are great when used with normal runners but I'm finding since I bought the dhb shoes, the vents in the base of the shoe are allowing a lot of water through to the point where there are puddles in both shoes on mornings like today. Can anyone recommend another road shoe that accepts Look cleats that doesn't have vents in the base of them?

Duct tape... seriously. For the winter just tape over the hole in the bottom, works well.

You could get some winter boots. I have Northwave ones, and they let nothing in the bottom. The water gets in the top, and the boot fills up. I'm going to experiment with duct tape around the top.

I've heard clingfilm works too. Over the shoe, under the overshoe.

A great one that has gotten me through many wet wet days is put on the shoe, buckle it, wrap your foot in cling film, cut out for the cleat, pt on your overshoe.

Just suck it up and live with wet feet noting is 100% waterproof

No need to suck it up if there's alternatives to wet feet, one or two of which are highlighted above.

Yeh I think the duct tape should work. When I used the overshoes with normal runners, it was very rare my feet got wet.

Candlewax in the holes has also been suggested before.

I wear hiking boots with a gaiter over them. Kept out the rain this morning anyway. Not much use for clipless pedals though.

i have used cling films and even bin liners (with holes for the cleats) under my overshoes, so it's invisible. works perfect.

    How about these?

I just got a pair and they are most definitely waterproof, and breathable

I also find Sealskinz to work well, have done long cycles in the wet with them. I use in addition to, not instead of overshoes.

In heavy rain I've had them soaked through. But then I had to pour the water out of my boots at the end of the ride. Maybe the water got in the top, but I don't think they are a complete solution.

I think it's better to try and keep water out of your shoes in the first place.

Off to buy some black duct tape....

I bought Shimano shoes which had a massive vent about 25mm x 6mm under the ball of the foot. I NEVER have warm feet, so I got some car body filler stuff like Isopon and blocked them up. Mind you the shoes were so uncomfortable I don't wear them any more. That's what happens when you buy shoes in a rush the week before WW200. Should have stayed with the 10 year old lace-up Diavolo's. I've since got some nice comfy Sidi Megas instead. Anyone want some Shimano R132 White/Blue - only used about twice. Size 44.5 or 45 - If anyone's interested I'll check the size later. Cost EUR100, sell for EUR50 or best offer !

Do Sealskinz not make your feet very hot though? I just use runners with shoe covers. Though they are a pain to put on if they are tight fitting and seem to rip easily. Seem to be waterproof though.

My plan is to move to gortex MTB style clip ins. Save messing with the covers.
