You can't lose weight from a specific area. You just lose weight overall and your body will decide where it comes off first.

    The equation is simple.

Consume less calories than you burn.

There is no magic behind it.

    Hi there.

First off, it is impossible to spot reduce fat from one area of your body. What is your diet currently like. Post up a typical days diet (warts and all). Do you do any exercise? A combo of general all round healthy eating like wholegrain carbs (porridge, brown rice and pasta, ryvita, sweet potato, fruits and veg), protein (cottage cheese, dairy, eggs, lean meats) and good fats (nuts and nut butters, fish, dark cocoa) will help alongside cutting out refined carbs like white bread, pasta, rice, sweets etc.

Combine this with exercise and your troubled areas will eventually shape up. Since you are unhappy with your thighs i wiuld advise resistance training and cardio. Are you a member of a gym? If so i would maybe ask a trainer to show you lunges and squats. Great for the legs and core.

You can't diet fat off your thighs. The effective way to shift hip and thigh fat is breastfeeding (it's why the fat is there in the first place, and it's the one time your body will willing give it up). Failing that, high intensity spinning classes have a good record of reshaping thighs.

This is assuming the OP is female and of child bearing age and willing to bring a child into the world OR steal a baby to lose weight??

    No.

You also don't want to build up to much muscle which spinning can do especially on the bum/thigh area.

OP - Are you in shape otherwise? You say you want to lose weigh on you thighs? Do you mean fat or muscle?

Yes, I'm assuming Hellojello is female, because very few men report fat on thighs as a problem. I'm not suggesting she gets pregnant, but if it's an option, then breastfeeding works!

Spinning does not build bulky thighs. Why would you think it would? Spinning involves a lot of high intensity work with a relatively low resistance. About the only way for a woman to build large thighs is with a hell of a lot of very heavy squatting. Even then, most women don't have the testosterone to get significant bulk. Most women (including me) have thighs that are bigger than desirable because they are carrying extra fat, not too much muscle.

yes but spinning CAN build up muscle, I've heard alot of stories from personal trainers about people ending up with bigger bums/thighs because of spinning.

Also short, high intensity excercise(like spinning)= muscle build
long, moderate excercise = fat loss

Like nearly all generalisations, this is just not true. Building muscle is incredibly difficult and really should be the very last concern of people trying to lose fat. You really will not "bulk up" with the amount of exercise we're talking about, especially if you eat properly. You will *not* gain muscle while running a calorie deficit and almost certainly not if you're eating maintenance calories. Building muscle (except in unusual cases) requires a calorie surplus.

    I would say:
short, high intensity exercise involving heavy weights + too much food = muscle gain + fat gain
short, high intensity exercise involving heavy weights + lots of food = muscle gain
short, high intensity exercise involving heavy weights + reasonable amounts of food = muscle maintenance + fat loss
short, high intensity exercise *not* involving heavy weights + reasonable amounts of food = muscle maintenance + fat loss

long, moderate intensity (i.e. aerobic) excercise generally results fat loss + muscle loss (you will note that distance runners rarely have classically attractive physiques).

i was just about to reply but Khannies post sums it up perfectly ... short high intensity cardio will not build muscle in most cases.... anyway there is nothing wrong with building a LITTLE muscle, its better than gaining fat ...

I still cannot reccomend spinning to someone wanting to lose WEIGHT(fat or muscle was not specified) off thighs. This was OP's request.

IMO Long moderate excercise is best even if it results are not classically attractive  they were the OP's request.

i guess to lose weight from tighs you need to drop fat overall though .. im not knocking long moderate exercise but shorter high intensity stuff will have more of an effect on metabolic rate ...

i guess I'm just allegic to people reccomending spinning to people wanting smaller thigh/bums when I have heard the big booty evidence!

elle macpherson reccomends "running like a granny" for slim legs, but what does she know...

There's no need for your rolleyes and sarcam.

Spinning and a proper diet will not result in large thighs.

oh god im certified with schwinn to teach indoor cycling and have done it for over 2 years and let me tell you it WILL NOT make your ass/thighs big. The women who tell you your ass/thighs will develop muscle with spinning are usually the ones who are afriad of lunging with 2kg dumbells in fear of gaining muscle. Sorry for throwing out generalisations but you are going on what you 'heard' and not based on your own experience.
