Help! Welfare in Carlow?

So I am a 19 year old, almost 20 and my life really has taken a turn recently.

I scored 395 points in my leaving cert last year, and started a course down here in Carlow, moving down and all. 2 days after registration I lost my best friend. Since then I have not been in College once and I have lost the desire to do the course. I have been to a counsellor and spoke about it.

But the real problem started last week. When I told my parents I had not being going to College. They basically said "if you don't go to college we won't pay rent for you"

thing is, I genuinely don't even want to do this course, I would be more suited towards social care. I could do it next year. My parents won't pay my rent and I am not aloud home.

So, I have been thinking of trying to claim the dole, what are my chances of getting a decent sum? Am I even entitled to it?
    Rent is 65 a week and I can't pick it off a tree :(
    Some one help.

you wont get rent allowance under the new rent allowance guidelines, I only read them today, unless you can prove that you have rented for 186 days in the past 12 months, or you can pass an assesment with the officer in Carlow town council, his name is Chris I believe.

as for social welfare entitlements I'm unsure on that at the moment as the regs have changed on that recently.

I'm going to move this to the state benefits forum, as you will get better answers there.

    Good luck with it Davae
