personaly i wouldnt have a single shot rifle for deer shooting just incase a quick follow up shot was needed, but thats just me.
the caliber is more that up to the job.

its not the miss id be worried about it would be a miss placed shot...
as my father says not every one of your shot will be millimeter perfect.
and if somebody says it has never happened to them then they are not out stalking enough

I know the gun your on about was looking at one not too long ago in landers ( probably same one) I was asking about .270'5 recently I think you can't go wrong with it as an entry level gun. but as some guys pointed out a quick follow up is important if needed, unless uoy were hunting with a mate who could cover "just in case"
If its the same gun that i mentioned before for the price you can't go wrong for entry level upgrade at your liesure:D

since your saving a bit on the gun splash out and get a really good quality scope, as much as you can afford, after you up grade the gun in a few years you'll still have the scope get it all in the one package to get the best deal

Would a .300 kick more than .270? I rented a rifle (in the U.S) off an ex- Marine sniper last year and he told me if someone gave him a .340 he would throw it in the bin as they are no good for anything and that the kick encourages people to flinch too much.

who got the black eye might be due to bad practice rather than gun

That 340 is probably a weatherby magnum, so yes it would kick more than a 270 in an equivalent rifle.

It would be absolute overkill in this country, plus it falls into the restricted catagory.
