anybody know what the line up is on the above team next year?
hopefully niko will still be with them, he was head and shoulders above everyone else on the team results wise.not bad for a 39 year old!

nothing personal against paidi o brien but he is never gonna make the transition to the next level.he has been at the same level for at least the last 3 seasons even taking injuries.

maybe its time to accept that he will be a top domestic rider and that is the best he will achieve

They've signed a Belgian called Stijn Minne. If his work ethic in training matches the work he puts into his website, he'll go far.

    http://www.stijnminne.be/

According to his website, Niko will be his teammate.

I don't have a clue what Irish guys they will have.

According to the team website, the following are staying for 2010:
    • Niko Eeckhout
    • Kenny Lisabeth
    • Benny De Schrooder
    • Paidi O'Brien
    • David O'Loughlin
    • Ronan McLaughlin
    • Mark Cassidy
Therefore, it would appear that these are leaving:
    • Jef Peeters
    • Matt Brammeier
    • Steven Gallagher
    • Steven Van Vooren

Welcome to the internet. Anonymity and controversial (and unsupported) opinions are part of the deal here; if you don't like that then the internet may not be for you. I suggest you go read a nice book or something.

The An Post sponsored Seán Kelly Cycling team has confirmed that all four Irish members from the 2009 team have been resigned for the upcoming season, A fifth Irish cyclist was also confirmed, with former British track cyclist Matt Brammeier declaring for Ireland.

The Irish quartet of Páidi O’Brien, Mark Cassidy, Ronan McLaughlin and David O’Loughlin, will be joined by Matt Brammeier (pictured) , who has declared for Ireland having previously raced for Britain. The 24-year-old will also compete on the track for the country and with a strong performance on his recent debut for Ireland, finishing fourth in the scratch race at the Manchester World Cup.

The 2008 FBD Ras Winner, Stephen Gallagher from Armagh has opted not to rejoin the team due to personal reasons. An Post and the team would like to thank Stephen for all of his effort and dedication over the past few years and wish him the best of luck for the future.

FBD Ras stage winner Niko Eeckhout, who won six races for the team in 2009, will remain with the team for at least one more season with the rest of the team selection outside of the Irish riders and Eeckhout to be confirmed. The An Post Sean Kelly team will have a training camp from the 14th to 21st of December in Calpe, Spain and manager Kurt Bogaerts will confirm his full team for the 2010 season in the New Year.

“We are delighted to have resigned the four Irish guys and now have a fifth from Ireland with Brammeier declaring for the country,” Bogaerts said.

“We have a training camp in Spain in December and again in January as well, and we will confirm the full team after this,” Bogaerts said. “We hope to make a few more additions to the team and will know more in the New Year.”

    1) if Paidi was not riding for an Irish team do you think he would have been retained ?
    and
    2) When spelling your name its usual to use capitals for the first letter only (eg Clown)

Beautiful machines. Was hoping to get one, but the geometry is all wrong for me. They are probably only for real cyclists like Mr Felt there.

Sadly what's even worse there is no Irish Team for Paidi to compete on.

It is a pity now Ireland have no UCI registered team now seen as An Post are now going to be a Belgian registered team. As for the new additions to the team that Kurt has mentioned I'd like to see a couple more of the younger Irish guys get a spot. It would have been nice to see the like of Sam Bennet, Sean Downey and young Lavery on the squad to really show if they are interested in developing young Irish talent. I also heard that Martyn Irvine ans Stephen Barrett may be joining the squad, if anyone knows more?

Bennet and Downey are signed for VC Le Pomme and Lavery has a team arranged in Belgium already.
Martyn Irvine and Sam Barrett would make sense to the extent that they are part of the road and track endurance squad.
Pity to see the team become Belgian , hope it won't affect An Post's sponsorship.

I think the likes of these guys, certainly Sam would better off on one of the top pro teams under their development squad programmes, just think they would have much more to gain and benefit in a more structured way.

I think these guys really deserve a good start to realise their true potential.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,238 ✭✭✭Junior

I don't think Sam will be going any half way house route, I reckon after this season with VC we'll know a lot about him, he'll either be going pro with a decent team or he will want to spend another year developing. I think the talk in the media this year about him being offered a contract, and him maybe doing the track were saber rattling to make sure he got the correct carding. And to make sure people knew where he was going.

The only thing I have against the An Post team is I think its based in the wrong country. I know people have thoughts about the way spain runs it's cycling teams and their methods, but between teams based out of italy like the british federation and guys who are based in spain I wonder about them.

first of all i am a real racing fan, i,ve been to the ras luimni, ras mumhan, fbd ras,the shay eliott, irish championships both days, toi, tob and that was just as a spectator this year, cycled in local races, tour de burren, sk tour, wicklow 200, ring of kerry and a few other sportives

i paid 140 euros last year for a full competitive licience,i will be the first to admit that i am not a very good cyclist but that does not mean that i am not entitled to my opinion which i expect some people to disagree with ,but that is all it is MY OPINION!

i stated that i have nothing personal against paidi, i happen to think that he is a gutsy rider , but in MY OPINION he seems to have reached a plateau in his progress as a cyclist.

paidi had 16 dnf last year which is a lot i think

what my real name has no bearing o my original post

It is good Sam and Sean are spending another year developing with VC, what is the team Lavery is with in Belgium? Amateur or Continental? For the other guys on the elite squad I think McCann is off with a continental team in the states, Barret and Irvine I'm unsure? So at least most of this high performance squad will we racing at a pretty high level next season. It would be great to see the national team be main contendors in the Ras and T of I!

It looks like that mountain biker guy Conor McConvey is going to be signed up shortly according to cyclingnews.com What road credentials does he have, if any?

F*ck it, I thought I could let this thread be, but there's a couple of things that rankled me in the thread that I couldn't let slide.

@sportbilly2008 - Your assertion that Paidi should just give up is grounded with nothing other than what seems like bitterness. Your never going to make it, f*ck it pack up and head home you waster, he's racing at a higher level than he'll ever get in Ireland, he's following what no doubt is a boyhood dream, sure he's had a crap season this year with injuries and everything else, but considering the amount of talent that's out there do you think Kelly would waste money on a someone who's going no where.

Your claim that you are a racing fan doesn't answer the point put across (badly I will admit) by FeltAR2, neither does the fact you bought a racing license last year make you someone who understands the racing scene or the racing ethic. It seems as if your attitude is just give up, pack it in, typical irish mentality. I say fair balls to Paidi, and the rest of the lads that give it ago, and better stick at it thru thick and thin. Ireland is littered with stories of shoulda coulda woulda stories, lads who could have been pro, should have been pro but didn't have the dedication or didn't stick at when they should have. I know there is the other side, the side like Ciaran Power who got stiffed right when he should have been getting support, but in saying that he was in a position many of us would give a testicle to be in.

@FeltAR2 - Man ranting at somebody like that is never going to make you seem clear, also the points you make are going to be lost in the rant. (see your man on pat kenny for instance) If you've got a bone to pick about someone's post, attack the information within the post, don't attack the poster, people can't dispute facts and true information. However arguing with an idiot still means your arguing with an idiot. Also don't go around calling people clowns when you don't stick your own name to your post.

I've left this slide and it's been at the back of me head for a few days to post this. Mods I'm sorry if this seems like some back seat modding, it's not intended as such. I just wanted to get this off my chest, I know I'm critical at times of the irish setup at the top level, but it's the setup I'm critical of, I've also attacked DO'L about his tactics at the Ras, but those were about his tactics, not about his desire or his attitude. I don't think things like this should be let slide, we produce very few pro's and to have people telling them they should pack it in really grinds my gears.

    Cheers

    Junior aka Derek

And yes I've raced, and I'm involved in cycling with 23 years, and still involved in a few small ways

My main concern with this thread was that the misquoting made it really hard to see who was attacking whom. So I fixed the quotes a bit to make it clearer. As long as no-one is offended (and no posts have been reported AFAIK) I don't see a problem.
Why do people on cycling forums never go under their real name? it's always Cock46 or Dickpenis75? funny ain't it?

Well Bradley, since you asked the question, there should be no need for anyone to put their name to their posts, since our opinions are supposed to stand or fall on their own merit.

interestingly enough they all have offices in ireland, it cuts down on their enrollment costs to register in Ireland and Cycling Ireland benefits to the tune of €4G a piece. this has been the case for some years now.

fair point i may have put my point across wrong but i was SO angry at the typical irish as u put it SHOULDA WOULDA COULDA. i dont mean to to harp on again but as someone who has raced in beligum in the last few years the poddler (PAIDI) is the most dedicated cyclist on the team and i think he along with the rest of the lads deserve a break. ok this maybe freedom of speech and all that but come on lads dont knock them. we have a small team based and now registered in belgium and i personally think we need to back them all we can and finally for someone can comment on paidi or any other irish RACING cyclists season on the back of riding a few audax events os attending a few classic league events as a spectator PLEASE LADS COP ON WILL YA.

I think the OP was entitled to his opinion on Paidi just as you are entitled to disagree. Using aggressive language wins no favours. It is an open forum where people can express their views ( in a civil manner) As you obviously know Paidi you should refute his post by explaining why the season didn't go so well for him etc. Always good to hear the inside story on what I'm sure is a pretty tough life. This forum is very supportive of you guys.

Delighted to hear you are keeping the flag flying for Irish cycling and good look with the 2010 season, also to Paidi and the rest of the lads.

Sad news for Stephen Gallagher and his Family as his young son Cody has passed on, Stephen obviously didn't take the decision lightly to let his contract lapse.

My thoughts are with the Gallagher family.
