Was meant to get mine today off metal-work teacher but he was at some convention. He said yesterday we'd have 'em today...

Talked to him today. He has it but not photocopied yet. He said he'd drop it into my classroom before end of week...

    Can't remember all of them

a is make and design a mechanically moving projector screen which will stop autmatically at the top and bottom

b is make and design a bedside tidy which will incorporate a phone holder and a clock. It must also have a light that goes on when it's dark

I think d is make and design a portable hand nail varnish dryer

and the rest are way too difficult

will post the full list of 6 at lunchtime tomorrow (1-2)

    is this woodwork or metalwork?

I wanted to do this for the JC.
Too bad not enough people did it.
I did Tech Graph instead, and never looked back.
I always wondered what Technoligy was like...
I heard you can do Audacity as an Elective..
Jesus, i would have gotten an A :pac:

    Technology. Not Woodwork or metalwork

@Pwezem: Tech has some elements of TG/TD in it, but it's all freehand apart from measurements. Pretty much you'll get some marks for being a computer geek (IE what is RAM?), and the rest is just other stuff. And of course the practical/project

Take a look at the past exams on examinations.ie
The exam is only 50% :)

Select any one of the following:

    (a) D&M a working model of an electro-mechanically controlled data projector screen. The screen should stop at its top and bottom limits.

    (b) D&M a bedside tidy to incorporate a mobile phone holder and a clock. A small light which activates automatically in darkness allowing the tidy to be located easily is also required

    (c) High vehicles regularly collide with low bridges and tunnel entrances. D&M a working model of a system that alerts the driver of a vehicle which is too high to pass under an oncoming bridge or tunnel. The warning system should be mounted on a gantry and be highly visible to the driver.

    (d) A beauty therapist requires a portable device to dry a client's nails after applying a coat of nail polish. D&M an electro-mechanical device which will dry the nails without smudging. The device must switch on automatically when a hand is placed in position and switch off when the hand is removed.

    (e) D&M an electric water level gauge for a tank to indicate at least two different levels. All electronics must be suitably housed and the design should include a means of attachment to the tank.

    (f) D&M a working model of a turnstile which outputs the number of people that have passed through it. The counter must be capable of being reset.
(Note: The counting may be either decimal or binary)

    NOTE:

Power sources, where used, must not exceed 12V DC

Where appropriate, all switches should be clearly labelled and the voltage at which the artefact operates should be clearly indicated.

    PS, D&M = Design & Make

    According to my teacher, A & B are easiest, followed by F, then you shouldn't touch B, C & D

Best of luck with the projects. Copied word for word from the sheet.

    Ryan

Anything but F is easy guys, compared to last years projects all of this allows alot more creativity.

A is a simple circuit with two microswitches to break the circuit when it reaches its limits.
B is a simple LDR circuit and tbh this sounds like OL because its so easy sounding but I think they are looking for style and design just like the cinema foyer of last year.
C is infared sensor switch, Not exactly difficult, Designing and making this project is the easiest imo as its just a sensor and some kind of audible/visible alert. The only off-putting is having to buy an infared sensor switch. This isn't a project that needs artistic design.
D is extremely simple, A microswitch which is pressed down by the client's hands OR an infared sensor if you really want to stand out buts it far too much hassle. A microswitch and an IMPELLER (NOT A FAN!!!!) is all you need.
E is a bit challenging, you need to make a float switch similar to how a toilet cistern works. Do it if you like, its challenging and because of that few will do it, so if you do it well your guaranteed great marks.
F I personally would not touch with a barge pole unless your god with numerical digit displays and basic chip programming (Not the stuff an avg. 3rd year would know)

Not alot easier than last year except for B, but theres alot more scope for creativity which I like.

Oh right! That isn't taught in my school, we have what is called materials technology (i.e. woodwork, metalwork.) and I thought that was what you were talking about. In metalwork, the written exam counts for 34% while the one day practical exam counts for 33% as does the project, i think...

hey i was thinking of d/ming the E I was thinking of doing a simple water sensor(two probes) with a potential divider circuit LEDs at the top and bottom of the tank but the float switch idea doesn't sound half bad but im not completing sure on how it works. little help:)

A float switch would be far better and more reliable though. Not to mention the fact that actually building the float switch mechanism is likely to get you some more marks.

A doesn't seem to bad! Its just the same circuit as the bollard from last year!!:p The only bad thing is trying to do the research on it because I can't find anything!!! I heard that they put D on it to try to get more girls to tale the subject!!! Its not going to work!! I'm the only girl in my class!!!:P:P
