Im buoyed by the fact that obama got it. If the commander in chief of a army involved in two theatres of war can get it, then im a shoe in for the next one:D

    Bargain alerts.............Home of stingy baxtards:D

You are dead right that it's not a bargain, just because something is cheap or "half price" does not make it a bargain!

I don't think there's any point in trying to tell those people about "quality". They have no concept of it.

Calling for back up, kona? You're getting old.

You're an angry man Kona. Unfortunately you're also right. But did you just link to a £900 pound fork to confuse people?

ha No no back up, I just thought it would be funny to share the replies over here.

Im still chuckling at the testimonials backing up the cheap bikes....and considering 200k a week as alot:D

Apparantley its ****e telling people to spend over e250 on a bike.:D

the motto is "Buy cheap.....when it breaks.... make up your own consumer law and wage war with the retailler":p

200km IS a lot for the vast majority of people, probably even for this forum. If you averaged that over a year you would be over 10,000km.

You're an angry man Kona. Unfortunately you're also right.

I used to enjoy daisies, and feeding the ducks, I also loved spring and lambs in the fields.....

    BUT THEN

I was introduced to cheap bikes and the people who buy them, motorists, and fixie hipsters, they eventually wore away at me to the extent that I get pissed off at kids playing football and making noise, and go onto boards.ie taking it out on these people.

    :pac::pac::pac:

how many people would cycle a 25k round trip to work? Id imagine a few would?

Dont you lot go on your spins all over the mountains, ontop of commuting? 10k km a year isnt alot all things considered?

There was a thread on this before, only 17% of responders were over 10,000km a year. For most (myself included) mileage certainly drops way off in the winter (and the waistline expands :( ) so 200km a week might be done during the summmer for a few weeks if there were sportives, etc.

I may be headed for a bit over the 13k this year but to be honest I do think I cycle more than the average person. There are certainly a lot of racers here faster than me that would do much less distance but would train in a more structured fashion (many of my km are leisurely spins, touring, etc.)

Im suprised tbh. Id be knocking on the door of 150k a week and Im almost in the city centre, another decade and I probably will be considered a townie:D
Id consider my mileage below average.

Hey Kona, you've just made my dull and dreary Tuesday a better place to be. What a bunch of goons, they'd probably spend more on a night out in Coppers.

Spot on Kona, I really don't think people understand what a BSO is. If you linked to a 200 euro brand new no-name car, people would say "hey, something is up with that, no way can it be good", but somehow a full suspension bike for under a 100 euro is an amazing deal.

I'd better order 10 if they all think that so.

While I do agree with everything said here a mate of mine bought one of those bikes from supervalue for €100 a few years back and it served him well. He only used it to nip to the shop or to belt down town, longest journey~ 2/3 miles. It lasted him until this year when some loser broke both wheels and nicked the seat when he had it locked down town, crap bike no doubt but he was certainly happy with it.... some times cheap is what people want.

In saying that I would not put a loved one on such a bike, you could end up under a bus if it fell apart at the wrong time:(

We have one over in the west, bought in the Clifden SuperValu.

Its crap. It's rusted through even though it was stored in a garage, the gears are awful and shifting occurs randomly even with proper cable tension and the drivetrain being unused. And like most cheap bikes, people think wheels are just something to prop the bike up and not one of the most important parts, these ones are rough, heavy and get knocked out of true easily. I considered doing a cycle during the summer from Roundstone to Clifden on it, just for the laugh.

If your journeys are only 2/3 of a mile, you are better off walking and putting the money into an iPod shuffle or similar MP3 player. A bike for that kind of distance is pointless really.

Also, like the BSO article says, the environmental and social impact of cheap bikes goes far beyond you saving a few pennies.

Ugh, black tights. I've banned myself from buying any more black kit. It's impossible to find anything in the cycling section of my wardrobe (yes, like many of you it's most of the warddrobe at this stage) what with all the black bits'n'bobs.

The best thing about the bargain bike was the name.
    (If you're livingstrong etc.)

Lots to learn about bikes Kona. Restated! ;)

This amuses my mother no end. What was once one or two bits of clothing is now approaching more than regular clothing. I'm thinking about getting rid of my normal clothes and wearing lycra 24/7.

I know a bike is bad when I see Kona recommending a halfords bike instead of it.

Respect to the Krusading Kona. You wouldn't buy spokes for the price of that bike.
