After the marathon i plan two weeks off, then i plan to do a speed work for the winter.

Alot of this i will do on my own, fartlek and some speed small runs!

But what weights is good for running, be handy if these could be weights i could buy for the house.

Also will be swimming two times a week, does swimming help much?

Are you talking about wrist weights?

Why not take two bottles of water/energy drink with you (0.5kg per wrist instantly!)

You can ramp it up to 0.75kg but you'd want big hands!

If you are looking for weight training ideas or cross training ideas then have a look at the November edition of Runner's World. They have 3 workouts in there. Each of the workouts also incorporates running.

I assume you mean you want to buy a set of weights? Argos have a good selection of weight sets. A cast iron or chrome set of york weights are a good option for light use at home. York are easy to buy replacement/extra plates for as well. Stay away from vinyl weights. http://www.irish-lifting.com/ is good for weights too, one of the guys in the fitness forum runs it if you can find him and check out his sig he may have a discount for boards users(I'm not guaranteeing this I'm just thinking I may have seen it in his sig)

York do a great set in argos with barbells and dumbells.
In terms of exercises i think that squatting, lunging, step ups and calf raises would be some of the more needed lower body work needed for runners.

Is that the next edition of runner's world? Currently Sept/Oct is released so do they then release Nov/Dec? The reason Im asking is because in the next issue they will have an article on how to prepare and what to do etc. on the last week before that marathon but since it is not in the shops yet the article will be released after the DCM, which is crap.

run with weights? ankle weights and arm weights are just silly, but if you had to i think running with a backpack weighted up is the best. arm weights might help if you're arms are significantly weak though.

if you want to be a runner, run. swimming doesn't help your running muslces at all. it will give you an aerobic workout and loosen out your muslces which is good for the cardiovascular system. you could think about working a swim in as a "recovery" session. then it's a good idea. it would also be good for giving you a mental break from running that will hopefully make you run better in the important trainings.
