    Hi folks

a work colleague has Merc E Class (around 2000) and he has said that on his way to work this morning that the traction control light was coming on and off constantly (triangle with an exclamation mark). He never sees this normally and it's also not just a loss of traction as he drives really easy. Any idea what would cause it to stay on?

    Cheers

    possibly a faulty switch. wire

or maybe the weather this morning (very wet) he might have being losing a tiny bit of traction.

Check rear tyres, it's been relatively dry for a few days now so rubber on the roads, slippy. I have an S class and merely turning a corner slowly can have the traction control light flashing away like a mad thing even in a straight line when she shifts up a gear she'll flash.

Also check there's nothing touching the ESP button on the dash as this disables TC.

I had the same problem recently with my Audi A4. Then the oil light came on as well a few days later and I topped up the oil and the light has not been seen since.

Could be a traction control unit thats required either.

I think he is going to ring a garage anyway if it isn't something obvious.

    Has he checked his tyres?

Is the aBS light on also? If it is it could be a faulty hall sensor (ABS sensor) at one of the rear wheels. If the sensor does not detect the hub moving it just shuts the system off.

Mind you, I think even an intermittent sensor fault would disengage the system until the engine was switched off and restarted.

His tyres are fine. I don't think he has rang the garage yet but I'll touch base again if he hears anything
