Hmm, looks like they are trying to pull a fast one.
I just got a licence and the licence says it for 29th Nov 2009 to 31st Oct 2010. One month less!

That is normal. The licence runs from the 1st of the month of purchase.
In your case it has ran from the 1st of November. Standard practice.

Depends on what country you are in

Hmm. How did you buy it? Were you not advised of this when you bought it? I renewed mine recently and was asked if I wanted to hold off an extra two days because of the date by the lady in the post office.

For a renewal delaying a few days achieves nothing as they back date to the licence expiry.

Odd that it was mentioned so.
