i am seeing my guy for over a year now and he is great but every time i ask him to come to a social event with me were it includes my family or friends he says no. its starting to become a problem for me and makes me feel like he doesnt really care too much. what do you think i should do. My last boyfriend was the same and i dont want to go down same road again. He knows i get upset about it but still cant make himself do it.:(

He won't go to anything after a YEAR because he's shy? I call bull on this, no matter hwo shy someone is they can put it to the side and do something as small as this.

Tell him to get his ass in gear and go to one of the functions.

(Possible better suited to Relationship Issues though (Ninja mods beat me to it!!)

Start him off slow. Coffee with you and your mom, double dinner date with your friends, movie with your friends etc. Have him gradually become comfortable with a few members of your family/friends. At a social occasion involving this sort of gathering, he will then have an anchor other than yourself to return to in moments of awkwardness.
