Might need to be reprogrammed, check the owners manuel if you have one or ring the dealer to see how it's done. I think you have a key in the card too if you look closely you'll see the top of the key as a separate piece and just pull it out. Also google your problem, you'll probably find the cure there too.

there should be a manual key that pops out of the key card, you can open the car manually with this from the passenger door. this is the case with the megane II anyway, so imagine its similar. renaults notorious for this.

If it's anything like my father-in-laws Citreon C4, it will need to be reprogrammed.
In his you need to turn on the ignition (just lights on dash, not engine started) using the manual key and then push any of the buttons on the remote key fob.

Presumably the button still click like a button and hasnt physically broken in the card?

If everything is physically ok, then it'll be the programmign lost. Most key cutting places reprogram car keys now too. Hae a look on the Renault forums too, a lot of them can be done with a sequence of button presses.

The keycard shown, with the buttons in the corner, is poorly designed as the corner of the PCB inside breaks off rendering the buttons useless.

It used to happen if you parked the car under a street lamp and the magnetic field generated by the lamp would wipe the memory of the card, another feat of Renault engineering.;)

Er, I very seriously doubt that little gem of wisdom. It would want to be some heck of a magnetic field to wipe any electronic device 5m away, you'd propably feel the buckle on your belt dragging you along .

Can you post a link to your source 'cause Google hasn't thrown up anything relevant.
