just wondering if any one has ever taken their fire place out, put in a back boiler to heat the water and replace the fire again.

was thinking about this lately and wondered

    a. would it be a messy job, would the fire fit back into the fire place the same as before or would it be sticking out.

    b. would it be an expensive job.

    many thanks paddy

I've done it 4 years ago.

messy yes, depending on how your plumbing to it, removing rubble, etc.

Cost, plumbing fittings, plant hire for circular saw & kango & my own labour as I had the boiler in another room.

I'm now thinking of getting rid & putting in a stove.. too much heat going up chimney..

Wouldn't a Multifuel stove with a back boiler be easier to fit even if you include lining the chimney?
