    You're kidding, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,025 ✭✭✭d'Oracle

    OP it is absolute crap.
There is no scientific basis for this.

Apparently a 55 minute"treatment" is as good as 5 hours in the gym. Or so I've heard.

55 minutes? That's bollox, isn't there just a pill I can take?

    Anyone any comments/experiences ??

mother of jasus - more like a modern version of 'toning tables'

Plenty of science to baffle you into thinking its going to do jack sh1t.

Why is it that its always women who fall for these crap 'weight loss' methods - no offence to the already converted gals here

Not even a modern version of toning tables, this one lets you just lie there and let the magic happens. Even the toning tables expected a little work.

Thats what I am wondering about, the science that is ...that lies behind this... If any.
There must be some body of research out there considering all the electro stimulant gadgets on the market.
What does it actually do do the muscle. i.e do the vibrations on these things actually cause some sort of damage that in turn forces the repair and strengthen process that happens when you work out normally ?

Just curious, a female friend has come to me asking for advice after having a baby.

    thx

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,394 ✭✭✭Transform

tell her to hit the weights and keep diet on track - oh and daily walking with the baby and pram will do it.

There is no benefit in looking into/researching bullsh1t you just get it all over you, have to start all over again and go back to the point above.

There is no science to the infra red bit anyway.
Its a mishmash of pseudo-science and nonsense.
It also has the definitive list of conditions that bull**** generally cures.

You cant sweat out cholesterol, nor would you want to, its a vital substance for our body to be well.
You cant sweat out fat either.
Acids? There are literally hundreds of acids in our bodies, which are made by out bodies.
Some Toxic compounds come out through our skin. Most of them are dealt with through the liver, and get out plenty good in urine.

You are probably not exposed to enough heavy metals for them to be a problem. Unless you drink mercury or eat lead.

Plus the whole idea that you can somehow beam heat to a certain distance is just wrong, I wont go into the details cos you would need a certain grasp of heat transfer mechanics.

Ionised Air??? Negative Ions of what?
Air is a mixture of gasses, none of which ionise easily. Generally Negative Ions of anything will try to react or combine with anything they can get to,
    it makes no sense.

Im willing to bet that as everything else on the page is rubbish, electrostimulation is probably BS too. But I'm open to correction.

WTF has this thread got to do with fitness?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,025 ✭✭✭d'Oracle

    Thats the other thing.

But the Lipotrim thing went so long that I don't know anymore.
Also there is a recession on, I would feel bad if I though people were paying for essentially having lights flashed at them......

    ......And I wasn't getting a cut.

To be fair, probably because women do hold onto that bit more fat than men and the whole 'ideal body' crap pummelled by the media that makes women self concious.

Some of us didn't need any converting thanks :pac:

oh give me a break - 70% of my clients are female and are converted to better and faster training methods rather than seeking out quick fix solutions.

All the fun of the sunbeds, without the tan?

It actually looks great. I'd love to be in one of those things for 55 minutes for some peace and quiet.

    Science is great isn't it?

I don't get why you need a break from what I said? Was it me saying some of us didn't need converting? That was meant to tell you that not every woman buys into that crap and thus not every woman needed 'converting'.

Go to bed during the day, with some earplugs in.
If you can spare the 55 min.

sorry i was in agreement with you and you read me wrong i.e. i know the people reading this forum are for the large part already converted to eating healthy, training and avoiding fads so i was saying i am preaching to mostly the converted -or at least i hope so

Oh what a life that would be. I could go to bed, put a red lightbulb in and cover myself in a sheet and bingo- 5 hours in the gym done!

When I see products like this I always think of the business owner.

Are they idiots who think they have a good product and genuinely sell it or are they just hard business folks who don't give a toss if it works as long as it makes a profit.

    Idiot or scam artist?

its all about the profit - well that and the con artist that convinced them to fork out thousands to buy the crap in the first place.

Has anyone in this forum actually tried this product? Myself and some friends have been going and we have all had great results. One of the girls lost 9lbs. I would recommend it to anyone.

I love gadgets like this....because they prove a point I read in Bad Science by Ben Goldacre. He reported a study where they gave groups of people two possible causes for a certain occurrence-one in plain language and the other wrapped up in unintelligible fancy-sounding scientific words. People were FAR more likely to believe something that sounded pseudo-scientific. So infrared/toxins/ions/electrostimulation=bingo!!

    Rubbish....
