Thinking of buying one of these, in the 3grand region (99-01 judging by carzone), any previous experience of these cars? No one i know has ever driven or owned one!

    eg: this one

    The question is WHY??????

seriously Why an A-Calss .... this one is as basic as can be, plastic hub caps no toys....
they are not nice to drive a bit cramped in the back...

the only thing that one has going for it, is that it is low on mileage... very low... 60K mile over 10 years.... less than 6K miles a year...

I have one, only bought it as it was a small car auto (hard to find at the time). I like it now, its very high up, doesnt feel like you are driving a car at all, more like a van. However it seems a little uncomfortable at 120 on the motorway due to it being a little top heavy.

If you are looking at a manual car though then dont bother, plenty of better cars out there for the same price.

I had an 99 A140 a few years back. It was a great little car. Great on petrol, nippy little thing, quite spacious (I had a long wheel base). It was a great little family car for me starting out.

Being a mercedes though, it's going to be expensive to service, get fixed etc. Don't go for the basic model, go for an elegance or an avanteguard.

    It's definitely not a man's car though!
When I finally gave it up I really did consider upgrading to a new one, decided against it in the end but only because I wanted a 'mans' car!

Bought and sold a few in my time and it always shocks me to see how much people are willing to pay for these awful cars. The plastics are crap, the interior space is crap, the driving position is crap and they break all the time. Everytime I had one there was always a warning light about something lighting up on the dash. If they were priced like any other car of the same size/age in then I wouldnt care but the prices are of the wall. That said from my point of view they always sell and they always make good money :) .....but would I buy one for myself if I was an ordinary Joe..No Way.

The turning circle of these cars is nearly TWICE that of other cars in its class. I know someone who had one, and was the reason she sold it.

Looking at that picture - is it just me or does it look like the front passenger door has been replaced?

Thanks for all the replies guys and gals, might leave it then :P seems like an especially expensive white elephant both (relatively) to purchase and also to maintain.
