    Hi,

I am currently on 3 network and don't fancy moving to o2 as i have a discount with 3. My bills are 37 a month only - every month. I would like to get a iPhone from AT&T in the USA and use my 3 sim in it.. They are currently selling them contract free for $699 for 32GB or $599 for the 16GB. These prices aren't too bad considering o2 are charging 299 euro on a 45 euro contract for 18months i think. I am totally new to iphone gossip and am just wondering is there any problem with what I am doing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think it would be a problem if the iPhone is on firmware 3.0 and not 3.1.

You will need to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone to use it on a different network, and firmware 3.1 is locked down pretty tight and I don't think it's been unlocked yet.

It seems most new iphones are now coming with the latest firmware & baseband out of the box, so its not yet possible to unlock them.

    I'm already on o2....

Would it require unlocking if I got an iPhone without a contract from AT&T?

Thanks for the info.. I have a friend in the states for the next 2 weeks.. I suppose i could take a chance on someone figuring out how to unlock the latest firmware..

Any news on 3 getting the iPhone?

I would imagine it would still be locked to AT&T, but I did hear someone on O2 ireland who after their 18 month contract was up just emailed apple or O2 and asked for it to be unlocked legitimately.

As you are buying it without contract I would imagine you would be entitled to do whatever you want with it, including use another network.
