I think I would like to have a crack at it next year.
Sourcing a suitable bike with the right components is going to be tricky though. I myself have chucked old shifters and brakes when I was putting a fixie together and I'm sure that many good old intact race bikes have suffered the same fate.

Has anyone done it or have any interest in doing it?

(I might try and sell my fixie to the next student who comes on here looking for a free frame to help finance 'project L'eroica' ;) )

For some reason my offices web scanner blocks this site as malicious!

I have cycled on some white roads in Italy and the Eroica course is I believe over 50% on them- far far more than the cobble percentage in the likes of Paris-Roubaix for example. If building up a bike I reckon I would look for something that would take wide tyres- maybe think more vintage tourer than racer. I had 700x25c tyres and really could have done with wider.

EDIT: You might want to check up the regulations as they have clamped down from this year... I think a vintage steel tourer without the likes of the rack and mudguards might be OK, but they do say "vintage race bicycle" in the regulations. From reading the regulations AFAIK the key points are (1) no clipless pedals; (2) downtube shifters; (3) brake cables must not be attached to the frame (e.g. no "Aero" levers brake cables under the bar tape, they need to pop out the top of the lever.) Seems to be no mention of tyres, if allowed I reckon would go for 700x32-35c. They do point out that pre-1987 work bikes, postman bikes etc. are NOT allowed but a tourer with drop bars is presumably close enough one would hope.

Look no further. Seriously what size is it? If you're really looking to get rid, PM me and we can maybe come to an arrangement?
