ATW heat pump with solar PV?

I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews on running costs of heat pumps and some crazy ESB bills arriving.

I'll be starting to build in a few months and I'm trying to decide on a heating system.
I was going to go for a air to water heat pump but rather than run it off the esb, run it off a solar PV system.

I'm not an expert on the area but it was a thought. I know the solar PV is not well developed yet but could it be an option?

    What do people think?

Sorry, but this doesn't stack financially at present. Solar PVs cost about €7,000 per KwHr installed, and that would generate about €128 to €160 worth of electricity in a year.

The price of PVs is coming down, but has a way to go before being comparable to other options.

If you have a good site for wind, this could make some sense, but solar PVs have a long way to go. In Spain, commercial solar parks used to get paid 45c per KwHr for electricity produced. When they dropped that to 31c, the industry slowed down a bit - and that is in Spain with almost double our sunshine..
