having been an iphone owner since release day 1 (in the states) i've seen many features added through software updates.

the iphone keeps getting better but took a long time to get essential features that pretty much all phones of its calibre have/had. for example:

MMS - i don't use it much, if i want to send a pic, i'll email. still should have been there.

cut/copy/paste - i really can't remember more made my self forget what it was like to use a phone with this absent.

video - again not that i use it much but pretty much every phone that has a camera has a video option.

these are just three examples of what i'm talking about. I'm trying to think of other things that other phones have that are pretty essential but the iphone has yet to adopt.

    any one have any ideas?

I hate that the 3Gs is capable of being an FM radio as well as being an FM transmitter but they just disable the functions.

I know they probably earn loads form 3rs party FM transmitters but to know it can do it, and it just doesn't is very frustrating!

The ability to send and receive items via bluetooth, ie Music, Photos etc.

Even the most basic phones on the market have this function. There is nothing as annoiyng as showing someone a photo, for them to ask you to send them onto them and you have to explain that you can't because Apple are bastards

Also. I think its ridiculous that its not possible to see the iPhone as an external hard drive over USB which would make data storage and transfer much easier. It would also make it a much better and more usable work phone. Storing .docs .pdfs etc is a right pain and impossible really if not accessible by a wifi connected computer or have it jailbroken. I'm really surprised that they haven't made this work as imo its really holding it back as a business phone

play music over bluetooth. seriously, this is an entertainment device! that bluetooth crippling thing is so bad ive decided to give up on the iphone and revert back to a winmo. need bluetooth + skype for my car kit. skype/fring/nimbuzz/im+ none work over bluetooth as apple have crippled the iphone.

should have been something sorted ages ago.

"play music over bluetooth" - this works for me using my car stereo I think it was added as part of the 3.1 update

You can listen to music via Bluetooth!

A menu setting to enable text message delivery reports would be handy

There is a method for forcing a report. It's not a switch, but you can do it for any specific text you like.
Just type *R* at the beginning of the message and continue as normal. The recipient does not see the *R* and you get a message back when they receive it.

I know. Thanks for taking the time to post that all the same.

A menu option for this would be handy.

Video calling would be neat, and a better camera with a flash would be good too. A memory card slot to increase capacity would be superb, and profiles like Nokias allowing you to change settings depending on the situation either on the fly, or on a timer so you could have work/home profiles with different ring tones and caller groups allowed to call you.

    ah, fair enough. No problem.
And yes, it would be handy. I don't bother making the effort to use it myself, and it's something I always used with my old phones.

hmm, and thats available in iphone 3.1?i will look into upgrading to 3.1, hopefully this will retain my jailbreak and unlock (last iphone i upgraded, is now sitting in a drawer waiting for the unlock solution... )

should be interesting. now if only skype/fring/nimbuzz could be routed to bluetooth headset, a2dp!

bluetooth was opened up a lot in 3.0, so i think that feature is in 3.0, 3.1 was a small update, think the most notable thing in 3.1 was being able to copy numbers typed in in the dialer.

Where there's a will, there's a way. I found this great little application online, it runs on your computer with iTunes installed and allows you to copy files to and from the iPhone storage like a USB Drive ... It's bloomin quick, too.

    Hope it helps.

I am a newbie to the iphone so dont know all the functions that well but first off I notice it does not play flash on websites. www.rte.ie for instance. It wont play the media player.

    I'll bet 10 euro someone has a solution:D

Also sending a business card function is not there.

ability to switch off the phone, but still use the alarm clock is all i can think of.

the list would be alot longer if cydia was not around. I've managed to get apps and addons from there to fix the other nigly issues i had.

Unfortunately, you'd lose that bet. :D

There's currently no browser support for Flash in the iPhone. Apple claim that Adobe's code would run too slow on the iPhone, and Adobe claim that Apple isn't giving them proper support and API access to develop a solution. So there seems to be a bit of a stalemate. This is why there's a dedicate YouTube application, instead of accessing it through the browser.

What Adobe are doing, however, is releasing tools that will allow Flash creators to compile their Flash applications as iPhone Apps - so hopefully we'll see some workarounds to the limitation in the form of free aps that allow us to access specific content that is Flash only at the moment.

    Some info: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/10/05/adobe_flash_iphon/

The only thing I would really want is a better battery (which we will most likely see in the future), 64GB option (again which we will most likely see), and FM radio (which is also possible) and the iPhone on more networks (which we will see next year). All this would make me happy.
