I completed my degree in computer science last year and now I'm taking a year out. I plan to go back to college next year and as the title states, I'd like a career in motorsport. So, any idea what course I should do (keeping in mind the degree I already have). I'm posting here and not in the college forum because I think people involved in motorsport can offer the best advice. Thanks guys!

Im a comp sci student too and have been looking into the different things I can do when I leave college. Just thought I would research this as you have opened another option for me now :)

Here is a little site that gives an overview of some of the main jobs in racing, there are plenty of other sites around too tho (google is your friend).

An in-depth knowledge of engine management systems, ability to write suitable programs for both engine controls and interrogation, Reading data from race car sensors, making sense of it and spotting the cheat. the low end is checking ECU's and read out for eligibility scrutineers to read and help the comprehension bit.

How good you are at writing new code will help the upward trend.... check the formula's using ECU's and protocols like KWP200 and similar. Lots of rally cars need upgrades,
Whilst you are in college, check your local circuits, race or rally and find out about helping the scrutineers and make yourself know.. and your talents... phone the car clubs holding the meetings and ask for the chief Scrutineer and if you can attend as a trainee. Some form filling in to get you enrolled but straight forward.
