iTunes won't open

All of a sudden, iTunes won't open on my laptop (Windows XP). When I double click, the little hourglass appears for a second or two, then it just goes away. When I open the task manager, it is there in Processes but not Applications. I end the process and try again, but the same thing happens.

I have rebooted, no difference. Wondering if I should try reinstalling iTunes?

It worked fine about a week ago (last time I opened it) and I don't think I've done anything significant since then, in terms of installations or whatever.

I read something online about Norton antivirus causing problems, but I'm not using that (am on AVG free).

Also just noticed, though the laptop is recognising my iPod when it's connected (i.e. I can see it in windows explorer), and the screen of the iPod is lit up, it's not charging it?? No idea if these two issues are connected?

    Any ideas / suggestions?

Hi Bertie, sorry I'm still being retarded about this, I right click, go to properties, and then what? I can't see where you tick to run as administrator. There are six different tabs at the top of the 'properties' box but none seem to give this option.

    Thanks!

I have no idea:confused:.It should be under the compatibility tab

EDIT:You running XP so I think under the compatibility tab there should be a drop down box to pick who to run as.

If all else fails you will have to 1st uninstall iTunes and all its components and then reinstall.

Before you do that cut and paste your iTunes music folder folder that is probably located in Music(?) to a safe place (desktop?)

After you reinstall iTunes paste it back and overwrite the new one.

Now you must follow the instructions here to uninstall iTunes:

Apple (Republic of Ireland) - Support - iTunes

Follow the steps for your OS

After you completed that and followed the instruction reinstall iTunes (you will have to install QuickTime 1st).

Nope, only to run it in compatibility mode for different OSs :(

Anyone else got any ideas how to run iTunes as Administrator, using XP? Reinstalling itunes sounds a little scary
