Should I go?

I am in my final year at college and at the moment I dont have a lot of work at the moment but I know in the coming months I will have lot of stuff to do. After my January exams some of my mates (all none final year students) are going away on a holiday for 8 days. I said I would go but I am now having doubts. I will have to borrow money from my parents to go. I also have to have my project & report handed in by March.

I am going to have a hard time getting a 2.1 mark over all and I am not sure if I can afford to go 8 days without doing any work.

What would you do in my situation?

If I were you, no. Especially not during your final year of college.

There'll be other times to go travelling with your mates. But for now, your highest priority should be your degree.

Your projects will almost certainly contribute a great deal to your overall mark - they did to mine when I finished in May. Do not sacrifice them.

    Take care. :)

It's important to take time out from studies and relax, but I know it can be tough to actually do it. You would probably have a blast but if your anxious about college work and borrowed money you may not be able to fully enjoy yourself while away. Is it a package holiday or would it be possible to compromise and go for four days? Maybe just say you have a family commitment. That way you won't need as much money, you won't miss as much study time and you might be more relaxed.

I'm also in my Final Year with a very high workload so I sort of am in your situation. I won't be going on any holidays or anything during this academic year. I have some money saved to go on away after I finish my exams in the summer so I have that to look forward to at least. It's only 7 and a half more months and then I'll be finished college forever - that's what I keep telling myself.

Sounds simple to me. You don't think you can go which means you really can't go due to college commitments but you're trying to convince yourself it'll be ok. If you do chose to go you want enjoy it to the full extent as you'll be worried about all the work you should be doing.

Stay home, save money for a graduation trip when you get your 2.1 and get the work. It is unfortunate that you miss out but there'll be plenty more trips pver the next few years. Your friends will understand, and if they don't, they will come next year when they're in their final year

Lets see :You yourself have doubts that you can spare the time and you dont have the money yourself.Once your January exams are over -you think its pedal to the metal till March on your project.

If this was Roman times I would open a pigeon and tell you. Seeing I dont have any pigeons I think I can say the Omens are against it. Oh - and beware the Ides of March.

    Bit of a radical idea!!!!!!!

If you felt that you would really like to do well in your degree but this year is going a bit fast you could decide to take a year out, go on the holiday with your friends, then your friends will be in the same year as you next year, and maybe its better to be in education for another year rather than out trying to get work in this climate????? you would also have an extra bit of time to work on your thesis this year and be really ready???

I had to chance to go last year as well but I turned it down as I thought I might be doing something at the time they where going away but in the end I did nothing. It isnt a package holiday it is just us organising it so I might see how much it would be if I only go for 4 days or so.

    Hey,

Well every year i was in college we went on our field trip around that time of year, and it was for 5 days, even in the degree year we went to berlin on another art trip! so i woyld say go, it could be a nice treat you could look forward, you will have your term break around then also and you can make sure you have your work done before you go, if you really really feel to worried to go then at the time pull out, you will loose the money but thats just a last resort, what do you think youll do yourself?/

    All the best x
