Adding the date to photos

Trying to teach an old friend of mine how to use a computer and part of that is organising and editing his photos. He wants to be able to put the date on every photo he prints.

The problem is he's approaching 70 and he's not able to master anything more than windows photo gallery, so any program I give him for this needs to be completely straight forward and fool proof. Any recommendations?

He shoots with a Nikon D5000 if that changes anything.

According to the specs, the D5000 has date / time imprinting available on it. Can you set that for him, thus he won't have to apply it each time he prints a picture? Might be an easy solution.
