    Hi,

Ive got a 3 year old hp compaq laptop thats after crashing. My plan is to switch the hard drive (which is definately the part thats gone wallop) with a replacement SATA drive, I have the original XP Pro disc to reboot the computer with. What I was wondering was is this as straight forward as I think??

Usually a few screws if theres a quick access opening to the hard disk,If not you'll have to open up the whole laptop(which still isn't much hassle) and put in the new disk,Close it back up again boot with the CD and format the Hard disk and install windows,Should only take an hour or two if everything goes well.

Theres probably a 'drivers and utilities' cd that came with the laptop. Otherwise you should be able to get them easily enough off the HP website.

It would be somewhat of a surprise if theres a wireless card in there that XP doesn't recognize.

Can you find the card under hardware manager?
    - Should be a yellow exclamation mark sign on it, marked as an 'unknown device'

Are you sure its turned on?
