Update Killed Freesat Box

A new update to software version 1.7.48 was downloaded by my Bush HD freesat box a couple of days ago and it has killed the box.

The box switches itself on an off, loses sound after 5 mins running and generally behaves strangely.

I see some posts about the problem on digitalspy but no resolution to it.

There does'nt seem to be any way to force a software download like on a Sky box.

Just have to bring it back to Argos I suppose.

    More on it here

Most shocking thing is they say they will release a new software to fix it in a couple of days...no rush then...wouldnt like to be housebound with nothin but my tv for entertainment....what kind of tests were taking before releasing it..

No problems on a Grundig SD with software version 1.6.28. The original joinfreesat posts indicates the problem is with HD but there are also complaints in later posts of problems on SD boxes.

I think its time we gave up on these guys. There has been a succession of problems with these ALBA box upgrades and their FTA mode is still crap.

Potential purchasers of these boxes should think twice in my view and spend the extra view quid on something that is not Bush/Goodmans/Grundig.

Disasters like this could damage the whole freesat project.

As noted in other forums, it does not affect all Harvard boxes...

My Bush HD is running fine since the update. I have not had any issues with it yet.

Where does one stand in terms of consumer rights if a piece of equipment they own is damaged (or its functionality reduced) by an unsolicted software "upgrade"

A few years ago I had a $ky digibox (owned outright) which used to work (with an LNB switch) on Astra 1/ Hotbird etc until they broke it by applying a software update which stoped it working on anything other than 28 deg East

Normally I i break someone elses property isint it called criminal damage or something
