Engagement Ring advice

    im just wondering, my OH has popped the question :D...and we're looking at rings i'm not your traditional girl and i don't want your traditional diamond ring, i have been looking around and i like the look of a ruby stone on a white gold band (my birthday is July as is my daughters so i'd want something good i could pass onto her in time)...im just wondering if anyone here has seen/done this and were there any problems with not going with a diamond ring? or is there any advice you can give me, i have no clue about stones other than diamonds and im not sure about ruby's!...

    Hello there. Ruby is a very good candidate for an engagement stone
    as it is one step away from diamond in hardness (Moh = 9). A fine
    ruby can sometimes be more expensive than a very good diamond,
    although a lot of 'birthstone' rings can present a more affordable
    alternative. Israeli-diamonds is an online outfit that have been
    100% trustworthy whenever I've dealt with them - here's their

    Hi

    A friend of mine got a blue stone (not sure what it was) instead of a diamond in her engagement ring and it looks great.
    I also got engaged recently and like you I'm not into the usual diamond rings you see in all the shop windows. Luckily my OH proposed with a random ring he picked up in a costume jewellery shop, and I liked the design of it so much (plus the sentimental side of it too) that I decided to get a ring made similar like it. Its like a trumpet in a ring shape with the stone in the mouth of the trumpet. Went to Barry Doyle a jewellery designer in Georges St arcade. He'll design and make whatever you want. Really nice guy.
