I'd say anyone failing CAP1's in their first year's in a very VERY bad situation because they can't be fully qualified coming out of their contract.

CAP2 fail in first year might get away with it.

Suppose it depends where you work! i'm luckey that they are quite laid back about stuff like that at the end of the day suits them if we never qualify because you don't get paid as much but you do the same work. I can see how it would be more of an issue in the bigger firms cause the whole environment is one big competition. But i wouldn't stress cause there's worse things in the world.

Nonsense. You can repeat later in the Summer.

I work in one of the big4. People that failed cap1 repeats were told today they were being let go and to go home this morning. 4 weeks pay would be given. We have been told the same will happen for cap2 so I am under no illusion as to what will happen if I fail my repeats.

I work in Big 4 too. One guy on my floor failed his CAP1 repeats. Was just a case of bad summer sitting and did not do enough for autumn repeat. He's been laid off now, stipulation is you pass the exams in no more than one year - you have two goes, summer and repeat in autumn if needed. Under no illusions now! You fail repeat, you are gone

Thats really harsh especially when most of the stuff in the exams have very little relation to the work you do as a trainee and if your good at your job surely thats better than passing theory exams in half the recommended time given by the institute. I'm really shocked!

Especially if people are let go after CAP2 seeing as how the institute ballsed it up, and with the new syllabus etc. They ran CAP2 on a trial and error basis this year I think, if the firms want to sack anyone who just finished cap2 so the institute should really be backing trainees on this.

You are forgetting that the firms and the institute are PROBABLY in this whole thing together. Its a deadly combination that is very hard to defeat.
