It might as well be. Their customer service centre is worse than useless.

Really - that surprises me - what bad experiences have you had with their customer service?

Can't write a long post, just about to go out.

Basically it was an electronic item I bought from Aldi about 6 months ago. Went faulty, had proof of purchase by way of CC statement, but Aldi were having none of it. They were demanding a receipt (which I no longer had).

    Aldi don't accept credit cards.

Can I connect my laptop to this to watch downloaded movies?

Don't think it can be done with the Tesco one posted and the 32" is a bit big for the Kitchen/Living area...

Aldi's no quibble refund is handy too. Bring it home and set it up, if you don't like it return it!

Doesnt look like it can, the tesco one appears to have no PC inpuit, which is rare for a tv.

The aldi one, as well as having a PC input has a usb port, which is handy:)

I'd have to disagree, I know a chap that had one of the their 47" lcd's go wrong after 18 months and got a full refund from them.

I know that Aldi and Lidl are different, but they operate very much the same. I wrote about it here earlier but the search function on Boards is down.

I bought a Targa DVD player recorder in Lidl which cost somewhere between E200 - E300. It worked perfectly. I used it mainly for recording off the TV.

Last December, about 18 months after I bought the unit, I tried to play a DVD and it wouldn't work. I went back to the shop I bought it in and they told me I had to ring their their service department which I did.

I had no receipt or proof of purchase. I gave the serial numbers of the unit to the girl over the phone and from these she was able to say when it was manufactured and to say that was within the 3 year guarantee period. She wanted me to post the recorder to some woman in Co Kerry, and to keep the receipt of posting from An Post so that I could claim a refund for this also.

Given the time of year and not wanting the hassle I didn't bother doing anything further at the time.

I rang back in the middle of this year. The girl had a record of our previous call, and again advised me again to post it to the woman in Kerry, which I did this time. Just over a week later DHL or one of those companies returned my recorder to my home. It had come from Germany, where according to the correspondence with it, the part where the DVD is inserted was after being replaced.

The only complaint I had was that the machine would now only play region 2 disks. I think it was region free when I bought it. I keyed the make and model No and hack into Google and got instructions as to how to make it region free. I was surprised it was so simple. Just input a few numbers into the remote control to bring up a hidden menu and you could make it play any region you wanted or make it region free if that was what you wanted.

I rang Lidl up again to enquire how to claim my postage back. I had to send or fax in my receipt to them. They sent me back a voucher for Lidl for that amount (plus a tenner for my trouble I think!!)

Anyway, I was delighted with Lidl's after sales service. Imagine going into Power City, Tescos, Harvey Normans etc., with or without a receipt, 2 years after buying the unit. I would be very surprised if you wern't laughed at and shown the door.

VGA, is the most common one, also known as "D-Sub" sometimes

    It doesn't say the tv has it on the aldi page but if you go to the manufacturers link on the page, it says;
    Connectivity
    TV antenna
    VGA (15 pin d-sub)
    USB port

What model of dvd recorder was yours? I have a similar problem with a Targa DRV-5100x.

I had the exact same story, same problem with Disk and had no receipt either - and had no problems. (But didn't know I could get refund on courier - PM me details if you could please)

    .

    It was a DRH-5500x.

    Qwerty?
I just rang the normal 1890 phone number and was dealt with by the people in head office in Newbridge for the postage refund. They were most insistent on proof of posting. I think they get this money back off Targa

Tesco's Technika brand is muck, I have had a TV and camera in the part, both dead after not much use, no problem in getting a refund (receipts kept etc), if you can get a good brand in the same price region this is what I'd recommend....

Got a Tevion 32" from Aldi 2 years ago. Started to go a bit weird a couple of weeks ago, had no receipt but the manager of the store wrote me out one, then arranged for pickup. The crowd who Tevion use for repairs were ignorant, didn't get back to me and sent me back the TV unrepaired telling me there was nothing wrong, when I called them, they abused me. Went into Aldi, the store manager apologised and refunded me in full on the spot, had the local manager call me later on to apologise again. Later that evening their regional manager called to apologise once more and promise to sort out the repair guy.

In short, I found Aldi to be absolutely excellent to deal with and that 3 year warranty to be worth its weight in gold. You could have knocked me down with a feather, I just did not think it possible for a customer to be treated with urgency and respect in this country. Perhaps its their european roots showing through ?
