    Hi folks,

Seriously considering downgrading from my 2002 Peugeot 307 1.6 to the likes of a ford fiesta 00 reg - and pocketing a few euro in the process!

The reason behind it all is that its drinking petrol and as peugeots do, it is being very 'pernickity' basically i want something reliable, decent looking and economical for less than 1600 euro.

    Any opinions? Yay or nay?

EDIT : Lets just presume the car is sold, would you still go ahead with it?

I've considered this myself. Don't think I could live with the depreciation of my car however.

I wouldn't think that you would pocket anything near the amount you think you will to be honest. Your own car would be hard to sell to the point where it will only go if extremely cheap...

Forget about going to a garage anyways, they will not be interested. Try selling the 307 privately but be prepared to take a bit hit on the price.

Remember also to factor in that an older car may need more maintenance as certain parts come to the end of their life so trading down might not be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow it appears on paper.

I did this before. Laugh if you will. I laugh now but nobody bothered to tell me.....................................

I downgraded my 2005 Focus in 2006 for a 2004 Laguna(thats right a renault) to save money because I was made redundant. It was the biggest mistake of my life.

You lose money instantly. The older car is worth less and you get stung by trying to trade a more expensive car in. You assume you will nearly be handed cash for your troubles but instead you are handed an older car and probably only €30 less a month in payments.

Get rid of Sky in the house instead and save money that way if thats what you are after.

Yes for me. I just sold my 2006 325i and cleared off some debt, bought a nice little run around (fabia vrs) and have some cash in the bank. I still have a well paid job (for now) but with a stay at home wife and a couple of kids i thought it would be better to get myself in a better financial position for the short term. Long term i will just save and eventually buy a petrol guzzler but no more finance etc.

Just trying to swap or sell my car. It's an A-class Mercedes 04, 21.000 miles, but I am not getting any real interest on it.
    Just scammers from carzone.
First I wanted to sell but now I thought I could swap it for a cheaper one, I was thinking about a Fiat Punto, a Seicento, or a Nissan Micra.
If any good ideas or advice on car dealers that might give a fair price for my car ... let me know. I am not intending to burn it out.

    Cheers

As i said above i just sold my BMW. I had to price it well below anything similar for sale. Sold it on carzone in just under a month. Price must stand out as a good deal or you just wont get any interest.

and so did I. I am offering it at € 6950, the most of them are being offered far higher than this and with a higher mileage.
I want to get something cheaper in case I relocate, something I wouldn't mind leaving behind.

Why are you trying to swap it for another car? What will you save by doing that?

I recently sold my 100% reliable 00 almera for a change. I'm buying a 91 Polo GT Coupe, it's so much more fun to drive, and it's miles better on petrol, aswell as going like sh!te off a shovel (for a 1.3).

well If I go for a cheaper car, say sthg older and cheaper in the range of
    1000-1500, sthg I wouldn't mind leaving behind if relocating. I would be saving around € 5200.- I 'd say ...
