Get an 06 GTI instead. 1.6 Avensii are very common and fairly underpowered, it'll cost a bomb to change to an 08 GTI. What spec and mileage is on the Avensis?

Given the price you can buy on old model new Avensis 1.6 for now I couldn't imagine getting much change out of about 16k based on what a guy in work was offered for his low mileage 08 the other day against a new (could have been a demo) 09 model diesel.

Have a look at this - huge spec but a few miles on it:

I just sold two 07 1.6 Avensis with around 90,000kms on each to the trade for around 9k each.

What mileage is on yours? I reckon if you were to trade now, you'd only be getting 12-12.5k for it. Maybe 13k if its mint, and has low mileage.

If you were lucky enough to get the golf for 26k, you could be looking at 14k to change, worse case scenario.

Cheers for the reply's lads, as for mileage its just gone into 21,000kms and in excellent condition.

I was also looking at the passat 2ltr diesel 140bhp would this be a better option!!

    There's a 1.6 08 Avensis for €14,700.

Granted, it has higher mileage, but not that much to make it 2-3k cheaper.

14k to move into a Golf doesnt really sound appealing to me...

Whatever you trade it in against you are going to get stung.

Unfortunately, you're going to take a woeful hit selling a 08 car.

Once you take that Golf GTi for a test drive you wont want anything else. I have one myself and once i took it for a test drive there was no going back :).
