I had a lot of problems a few months ago, got them to call out and do some tests, turned out it wasn't their internet that was dropping but there was a problem with wireless access point - the white box that comes with it, if ur online and it drops take the network cable out of the white box and plug it into ur computer, u have to sit nxt to the connection to play but it should work.

Also if u go start->run and cmd to bring up the cmd line window type in ipconfig.

note the number that comes up as ur default gateway

open internet explorer and type in http://default gateway number from above

and that logs u onto the box, if u haven't changed it the login is username: admin

    password: password

from there u can restart it which could also help, I just logged onto mine there and I see there a fireware update so maybe try installing that.

I've not had any probs the last 2 days and I've not got that update but maybe it might help ur problem.

If u notice if ur computer is still (sat on the table) it works and doesn't disconnect but then when u pick the computer up to say put in on ur lap it disocnnects thats the prob I had.

UPC/NTL/whatever they're calling themselves these days are THE worst ISP in the country by a country mile. I had their broadband for a year, about 4 separate engineer calls, replacement modems yada yada... Their customer service is like a comedy routine.

Endless disconnects were a nightmare and that was the second address I'd been a customer at.

It turned out the line just wasnt high quality enough to handle it and in the end I had to threaten legals to get a refund on most of the charges for the proceeding year.

If you haven't already signed a contract with them, save yourself the hassle and go with Eircom.

Funnily enough, my old man was telling me the same story last week, only switch the companies around.

    Weird.

Yeah, ive had BT & Eircom for years and they were excellent however whenever you have problems your in for a bumpy ride unless its a standard fix as from what ive seen all their customer service standard is pretty poor. Probably not surprising as there probably under pressure to make x amount of calls as solved each day and when they get a difficult one they probably just want to get rid of you as quick as possible.

Anyway i had to switch about 2 months ago to NTL, had 7mbps broadband with Eircom and my download speeds were about 50kbps-100kbps when downloading most things and occassionally depending on the site as high as 200-300kbps and for torrents 20-40kbps was pretty much the max

Now with NTL 20mb broadband which is the same price as the 7b boradband give or take a few euros, im getting 200kbps+ but on some sites its 3 times that and for torrents im getting anything from 20-400kbps and i even had 1 thing that downloaded at 1.8mbps on torrent WTF, but nothing near it since.

Also i play on ipoker and had alot of problems where when i got disconnects i would get "user is already logged on" when i try to relog in. I dont get this on NTL but i definetely get less disconnects but saying that i didnt get many disconnects on either, 1 a day maybe on average but i might play 20 hours a week so thats not too bad. I also noticed something but it maybe just coincence but i seem to get more disconnects when ive torrents running and usually turn them off playing poker.

Long story short, NTL broadband is the nuts, Eircom/BT and NTL customer service sucks balls.
