I bought a '04, 2 ltr petrol Mazda 6 in a rush essentially. My passat was giving loads of problems so I saw a decent spec Mazda 6.
Has air con, cruise etc... BUT when I was buying a car I really wanted the RX8 and now I cant stop looking at them on carzone. I want one. Simple as that.

    So what do you think?
Should I stay with what I got or buy an RX8?
    Anyone got an RX8? Pro's? Con's? etc..

Considering I only have the Mazda 6 about 2 months and I think its grand I know this is a stange thread but I hope someone else has had this sort of dilemma.

    Cheers

if you're comfortable with losing money on the 6 and can afford cost to change then your minds made up really

An owner once described sitting in traffic in an rx8..... like throwing cup fulls of petrol out the window quickly.
If you do alot of miles, dont bother with it, otherwise why not!

yeah they are a nice car but the RX8 is just up a notch.

As for the drinkin the fuel thing. The 6 does 400 miles to a full tank I presume the RX8 does about 300 miles I stand corrected through on that so its not that bad..eh yeah... could be worse cough Hummer cough I'm looking your direction...

As for taking a hit I've already been offered as a trade in about 6500 which wouldnt be bad condidering I paid less than that for it.

I've never owned a sports car before though as well so kinda nervous.

It depends on your setup, if you need a bigger car and enjoy the power and performance the MPS will do the job, if you dont need a big car then the RX8 is a fine car.

But from what I understand they are heavy on juice and need oil top up every 3k miles (I cud be wrong on this).

Life's too short for what-ifs. If you want one then get one.

The Rx8 uses oil to lubricate the rotors tips so it uses oil by design, you will have to keep an eye on it and keep it at the right level but it uses mineral oil which is cheap.

If the 6 does 400 miles dont expect an Rx8 to get anywhere near 300 miles! MPG will be in the teens and might just get 20/21mpg at best. If you sit in much traffic the mpg will go out the window.

The car is designed to be revved and it helps stop the carbon build up so it needs to be given a good drive each day.

Also be aware of flooding the engine, if you start it and turn it off before it has heated up you run the risk of flooding the engine.

They are a great car to drive though, handle very well and have a decent bit of power, you should go for the 231 version, its much more sporty and comes with plenty of extras such as headlight washers.

As long as you know what your getting into then go for it, dont look into getting an Rx8 and think you can just drive it like a normal car.

From my own personal usage I wouldn't find this to be accurate

This would be more accurate from my usage, you do need to check it every now and again but it is a minor part of owning a car that is this much fun

They are heavy on petrol, I can get from Dublin to Mayo and back on a tank of petrol so it isn't too bad but if you are driving around a city every day and stuck in traffic all the time then the can guzzle fuel

They are quite practical too, they carry 4 people in comfort and the boot is a decent size (although the boot opening is small so can require you to play a bit of Tetris to fit stuff in) I recently moved house and the amount of stuff I managed to fit into the car was very surprising

OP if you can afford it then go for it, they are so much fun to drive and if it is possible then why deny yourself
